After Market Wheels

I am being told by the parts and sales departments that due to the pressure monitor, a kit is required if aftermarket wheels are to be used. They have told me that this feature cannot be disabled. This kit is 375.00 (Can) or about 230.00 US (per wheel).

I wonder what happens if this kit isn't used. I know the pressure monitor will not work without it but does that affect anything else? Anyone out there running after market wheels on the coupe yet? My 6MT is suppose to arrive in December and I need winter tires. I am not crazy about changing tires on these rims twice a year. I wanted to buy some cheap 18" winter wheels.

Re: After Market Wheels

Hey telegram sam, 18" winter wheels sound iffy to me...a smaller wheel will do better in the snow, i recommend 17's like what comes with the 5spd,
kkh713x.....you are one lucky ****, you live in TX so you dont have to worry about snow like us here in michigan, thank god mine arrives in march/april so i wont have to deal with this winter :-D

Re: After Market Wheels

I was considering 17's but I was told that the 18's are required with the brembos. Seems like an incredible amount of hassle for winter driving.

I didn't know there was a tire pressure monitoring system available on the coupes.

I was wondering about the psi monitor also, have a Z, getting a G coupe for my wife this summer. Didn't see psi monitor in the infiniti literature, but haven't looked real hard yet, can anyone confirm?

As for the Brembos/17's , a professional road racer on my350z.com , handle is dwnshft, is running 17's on their Track model race car, and they fit fine.

I'm not sure what kind of kit that someone is trying to sell you on, but several people over at my350z.com have put rims on their cars and were still able to use the tire pressure monitor.

However, this is a moot point since there is no tire pressure monitor on the g35c.

The only tire pressure monitor i know of is a warning light. I know this for two reasons:

1) I live in michigan, so when the tempurature dropped 30 degrees in 24 hours my warning light went off.

2) There was a rattle coming from my front driver side wheel, and it was that sensor. It had broken somehow and was swimming around in there.

There certainly is a TPM on the coupes, at least the 04s. When I took my car out from garaging it for the winter, the Telltale was on, since my tires had lost pressure sitting for a few months.

I've seen that the Nismo wheels specifically say that they are compatible with the TPM systems, so maybe it is possible that some wheels are not.

There seems like very little room between the brake and the Wheel on the fronts on my 04 coupe. I'm sure most 17s won't fit over them, but there may be a few that do. Check tirerack.com, they may have some winter wheels that fit over the Brembos.

They are called Tire pressure sensors (TPS). All you have to do is take them off the factory wheels and install them on the aftermarket wheels. It is just a sensor that is connected to the valve stem. There is another sensor on each fendor somewhere (don't quote me) and each time the sensor on the valve stem goes around the other sensor can read it. I have after market wheels and I did not use the TPS....no biggy.
