Q for those w/ 6 speed
So I have heard different things about the 6 speed.
Is it that hard to operate the '05 G35 6 speed smoothly? Some articles said porsches shift easier and the clutch on the G35 is hard to depress and master. Is this bullsh*t?
I've been driving a 5 speed Rsx-Is the g35 tranny A LOT different than Acuras? Will the adjustment be minimal or major? Sorry about the newbie post but any input would be appreciated.

I too came from driving a Prelude. I'd say the G's clutch is about 3 times harder...but, you do get used to it. I think you have to work a little harder at making smoother transitions from gear to gear, but again...you get used to it. Only problem I'm finding is when I drive the Prelude after driving the G I just about put the damn foot through the floor board when depressing the clutch.
Eh...don't think about it too much. My wife drives the G daily and in some Dallas downtown traffic and hasn't complained.

Indeed... it's all about learning a new "style". I came from a Mustang GT that had an enormously long throw on the clutch. Took a little getting used to (clutch engaging at the top of the throw instead of the middle like the Mustang's), but now I have no problem putting myself in "don't give the wife whiplash while shifting" mode.
All in time, grasshoppah.

If you find it difficult to adjust to, the problem usually appears to be with the engage point. As some have mentioned it is near the top of the stroke by default but you can adjust it pretty easily to be more near the middle and even the bottom if that is your taste. There are several threads on this if you do a search.
Also from a Prelude...and there is def a big diff in the two clutches. The first few times i took out the G for some "spirited" driving, i was all over the place when shifting through the gears. Like everyone says, practice practice practice. If u wana get better at it - you will.
With that said, once you get (im still not 100%, but darn good) the 6MT tranny is friggin awesome...the car really shines when u begin to creep towards 4-5 rpms with perfect shifts...
Is work over yet????????

that's really a coincidence that you ask...
on monday i had the day off and went to porsche of arlington to check out the new '05 boxster. there was only a couple salesman so george let me go by myself. tried my best to hide a huge grin.
i was a bit nervous starting up the engine because this has been my dream car manufacturer for my entire life. i almost stalled after turning on the engine because i didn't know the thing was in gear but i caught it at the last second.
anyway, adjusting to the transmission took literally like 2 shifts. the clutch was so easy and soft to use. the transmission could be described with one word, smooth. driving was 3 times more smoother than the g35. i feel with the g35 you have to be perfect with the clutch to keep the drive as "smooth" as an automatic tranny would.
it was a little different not having 6 gears. i kept finding myself shifting to 5th gear prematurely. in terms of power, i drove the base boxster so there was a major difference between the g and the base boxster. I guess that's why they have the boxster S.
oh, the handling and balance of the car was amazing which i guess is what makes it a porsche.

Yes, the engagement (friction zone) on my clutch is also all the way at the top. I think this one takes more time to master than others, but it all takes practice. I thought it would be at least similar coming from a 5 speed nissan maxima, but it's not. It's much more sporty and hard. I drove my cuzn's Evo the other day, and that thing is so smooth, a real driver's car. First test drive, and the car and myself felt like one. Not as sophisticated looking and had a long shift rod, but was real easy to push the car to it's limits.
