Clear tape near the rear tire

I have a clear tape on the side of my G, between the front door and the rear tire (on both sides). Does anyone know what it is, and if it belongs there? Maybe they just forgot to remove it. It looks like it's there for protection, but the edge of the tape is starting to collect dirt, especially when the car is waxed. Is it something everyone has, or should I take it off? And the last question is, what's an easy, and "paint-safe" way of removing it? It feels like it's sitting pretty tight on the car.
Thanks.

Re: Clear tape near the rear tire

My G come in in July, but I noticed that on the ones the had in the show room. I imagine it's for protection. It looks just like the clear bra you'd put on the front. It actually made me chuckle that they'd put protection there, but not on the front. What's up with that?

keep it on, its to prevent rock chips, you can wax over it, it cleans real easily

ever heard of clear-bra? thats what its made of, very good stuff. Look into getting a clear-bra for your front bumper as well.

Re: Clear tape near the rear tire

Thanks Rambo. I just have a feeling it won't last long, and will leave a spot when it's time to take it off or replace it. I don't see how that spot can get rock chips, as opposed to the rest of the side of the car.

Front bumper definitely needs one, so I'll start doing some research on it. Can I get it just for the bumper?

Well, i think it's because that part of the body starts to widden out, right before the wheels. So its' a little more out there than the rest of the side. But your right, it doesn't make sense to put it there if they aren't going to put it on the front.

Zorro, Rambo is correct. Notice that the part with th tape is slightly wider than the rest of the car. Rock or debris from the front tire may get slung back and hit that vulnerable spot. I don't know about you but I'm glad I have it and I'm keeping the tape on.

Re: Clear tape near the rear tire

hey guys, this stuff will last a very very long time, its there from the factory, nissan was having rock chip problems when they were testing the car last year before hitting the market, and thus did this simple fix.

You can get any part of your car covered in 3M Clear-Bra or comparable brand, they can come in sheets or rolls and can be cut to size to wrap around the edges so that it is not visible.
I, myself, have been trying to look for an installer that will just do the front bumper for me, but havent found a good one yet.

I had it on my C70 Volvo for over 4 years and never had a problem with it. I'd leave it on.

Don't remove it! My coupe was delivered to me missing it. I got a really big chip in that area while waiting for the dealer to replace it. So it definitely does serve a purpose.

Uh, to offer a different opinion, when that stuff was peeling from under my car, I yanked it off. Keeping it on for protection is fine, *if* in fact it is staying on. If it's coming loose and collecting crap on it before you notice it, hell no I wouldn't seal it back up. Would you tape sandpaper to your car?

I have an Ivory Pearl coupe, and no matter how much I wash it, the darn edge doesn't get clean. The first few times I washed, the dirt came off okay, but now the edge has darkened!
