Hello everybody! I just purchased a Diamond Graphite G35 6MT coupe Friday night and have a few questions:

1. The sales manager told me there is no break-in period for the G35, while the vehicle manual says otherwise. My first two days of driving, I've taken it pretty easy, but have revved the engine to about 5500 RPMs 4 or 5 times through the course of driving. If I follow the recommended break-in for the remainder of the 1200 miles, should I still be okay?

2. Is break-in even necessary?

3. How do you prevent yourself from taking special trips JUST for excuses to drive your G35 coupe? This thing is addicting!

Tha sales manager is a moron. You should do the breakin. Stay below 4k rpm and when crusing on the highway try a stagger yo speed. The crusing at one rpm may create wear on the cyclinders. You don't prevent yourself from taking extra trips. If yo occasionally go over 4 k I am sure if won't hurt the engine but don't be doing WOT before the end of the 1200 mile break in. COngrats on your new G!!!

 

Shoot, I think I've hit WOT about four times since I bought it. I'll stop until I get to 1200. I should still be okay, right?

 

Follow the manual bro. Nissan knows best. The occasional trip to redline won't do any harm, but generally take it easy for 1200 miles.

I can't recall ever seeing one post saying that a fuked up my motor cause I did not break it in properly.

I drove my car like I stole from day one.......20K miles no problems.

Lucky you. Looking at your list of MODs makes me think that how you broke your car in will be the least of your worries if you ever need warranty work...

 

I know the risks involved and if I couldn't pay I wouldn't play.

It's always been my impression that a break-in period is about life span. Break it in soft and have a longer lasting motor with fewer issues.

I, however, am on a 3 year lease so...............

Word to the wise - this is but one of many reasons we do not buy lease returns.

20k miles is really nothing....

He mentioned breakin being about sealing the rings, but I thought in modern engines the rings are sealed instantly anyway and the breakin is more to smooth out the cams/pistons from the tiny machining errors taht are present.

 

Breakin period was useful for $hittily-built cars in the 1970's. Not now. I think Nissan's recommendations are all about liability...

Certainly can't hurt to drive it easy for 1200miles. Just no fun. I prefer fun.

(plus, mine is a lease, too...hehe)
