Travis County Emissions Testing!! (Texas)

hey everyone,
I just got off of the phone with Austin Infiniti asking them about headers and stuff like that and he would not recommend it because Travis County (Austin) will begin emissions testing next year and if you got headers, you won't get your inspection sticker. Anyone hear about this yet? I will be moving to the Newark, NJ area around this time next year. What are the emissions policies there?

As long as you dont take off your cats, you will pass emissions. Headers are perfectly fine in texas. Hell even if you dont have cats, there are ways you can pass emissions. Dont let the dealer BS you.

are you sure about that? why would he bs me? he told me that that they will do the same as they do in la or something and anything done in front of the cats (ie. headers or the cats themselves) will result in a failed inspection. starting next year. two other import auto places confirmed this as well. I think I will call DPS next week and ask them...like they'll know.... dumbasses there just take pictures...

I live in houston, which has had emissions for a while now since we have the dirtiest air after LA. The way they test emissions is they they hook up the machine to ur OBD II port and scan for codes from the cats to ensure emissions compliance. They dont hook up anything to ur tailpipes. As long as your cats are working you wont be throwing any codes, and you will pass emissions. Headers dont do anything to the cats or throw any codes, as far as the computer is concerned your emissions are clean. Hell i have been running test pipes on my mustang for 4 years now, and I still pass emissions cuz its easy to fool the computer, the only drawback is that you are screwed if they go under ur car for a visual inspection, but very few places do that. And in all these years of having my cars inspected not one place has gone under the hood, so there is no way of finding out if you have aftermarket headers ( like gas station attendents even can tell the difference 99% of the time ) If harris county is this easy to pass emissions i know travis cant be hard at all.
