Issues w/ 03 Brakes

Hello,

I have a DG/G/6mt/aero/prem '03 G35c that I bought brand new at the time. Since i've had the car, I've had a lot of issues with the brakes and handling. I've already replaced all four tires and replaced all four brake pads. The brakes are still grinding and I'm taking it back this Thursday to have it looked at. At one point the Infiniti rep (who no longer works there) said that if I complain enough they would replace the brakes. I took a look in consumer reports and apparently the brakes on the '03 G35s are rated very poor and have a history of issues.

The car has 26K miles on it now. Has anybody else had similar issues with the '03 coupe and can offer any advice. I feel like i should really go in this week and demand a full replacement if they can't isolate the problem as I am getting sick and tired of having to make an appointment to go back and deal with the inconvenience.

Strangely enough even after this experience I plan to trade my car in for an '05 G35c 6mt, but really want to get the brakes fixed before I get it appraised. This time I want to get Nav which I regret not getting the first time. Does anybody know how much room i should have for negotiation on either one off the lot that is transferred versus a special order? I am really stuck on Stone leather interior/Nav/Premium and probably BS or Lakeshore Blue for the exterior so I may have to special order.

Also any advice on what I should get on the trade in for my '03 coupe?

Sorry for the loaded post and thanks in advance for any help/advice.

Cyc.

I just purchased an '03 6MT as well and was lucky (I guess) that the dealer changed all the Brembo calipers before selling it to me. Not because of performance issues but because the previous owner had the calipers 'shaved' to allow for aftermarket wheels. They would not sell the car with the calipers like that so they changed them. Guess I'll see what issues I encounter in the future. :/

In California, there's a lawsuit that Nissan settled by going back and extending the warranty to cover the brake pads and rotors. Seems that people sued because they said these wear out too soon, lowering the value of the car. The dealer will inspect to see if the pads and rotors meet the requirement to be swapped/changed under this warranty. I just dropped off my car today to have that checked out (among other rattles and moving seats and such). Go to www.infinitihelp.com to check out the latest news (where I found the lawsuit announcement) and other service bulletins.

You can always try some aftermarket pads, it might help

not sure what you mean by "transferred" but as of late? ppl are getting their 6MT for around 500 above inovice or bit less! It might be bit late to put in orders for 05s tho, might as well wait for 06s ...dont really matter to fix your brake before you trade it in, unless its grinding badly.

Good stuf.f...

Really appreciate everyone's feedback, I had no idea about the law suit but that will be good ammo for me...

When i mean transferred i mean usually the dealer you go to doesnt have the color/option combination you want in stock but sometimes other dealers do so they can transfer them from another lot. I thougth that maybe i'd have more negotiating power if I didn't special order... i'm bummed now if special orders are over and done with for '05.. i really want BS/6mt/nav/stone leather/prem/aero and i checked inventory on all the dealers on the east cost and none of them have it in that combo

I take the car in tomorrow so i have to put my game face on and really be firm with the service rep. Will let you guys know how it goes.

Thanks,

Cyc.

Hey dude, just so you know, I dropped off my car yesterday as stated in my post for warranty maintenance work and I asked them to check the brakes, remember (see above post from me)? I just got a call back and they are indeed replacing the front rotors and pads!!! Enjoy!

Ok, so I picked up my car yesterday from the dealer and they changed out the front rotors and pads under warranty, get this - the rotor was at 22 millimeters and the pad was a 1 millimeter according to the report! I'd say go to your dealer and have it swapped out before your 3/36K runs out!

The warranty only covers the 03~04 5AT's pad and rotor for 3 years/36k miles...if you had pads replaced at dealership recently? and it grinds already, they should replace it again for free, I would definitly look for some aftermarket pads and ask dealer to install them for free.

I've heard of grinding down the raised fins of the caliper to fit them on some cars.

Unfortunately I think they're right. The Brembos were an option so I don't think they're covered under this clause. However, if you originally had the regular OEM pads on there and they went ahead and changed them to Brembos without informing you about the brake warranty clause you may be able to argue with them - as in "Take yer stinkin' Brembos back 'cause they squeal like pigs anyways..." - and ask for OEM pads and rotors under warranty...
