Private party sale will almost always get you the best price for your car.

as far as tax is concerned, it really depends on your state. For example in California, you would sell the car, then have to pay tax on the new car again. But other states, such as South Carolina i think, when you sell your old car for a new car, the tax amount on the car you sold will go towards the tax amount on the new car so you would pay much less in that regard.

Make sure you de-mod it, that is if you have done anything to it. Modded car will keep the average potential buyer away.
Like others mentioned, your best bet is one of the online classified sites. I recommend Yahoo Autos.

Or you can always eBay it...

I'd take it down to Tijuana and leave it, report it stolen and get the insurance $. Can't you do the same thing and use Canada?

;-)

You will get more money for a private sell. It is less of a pain in the *** to trade it in though. If you trade it in, you can also get a good deal from the dealer (if you go to the same one) since you are buying a second car from them, and are also going to let them make profit on the trade-in car. Trade in will also get you a break on taxes. You have to weigh this against the more money you will get for private seller.

Use cars.com. sold my car within 2 weeks of advertising and had 1 call within 12 hours.

2004.5? And you now want an 05?

What are you hoping to get for it?

I can't see you getting away without owing on top of what you sell for, unless you gave a bit of money down when you bought. If so, kiss that 'down' money goodbye.
