License plates
A front plate is required in Texas, so running without one would just be pressing my luck. The Stillen-type adapter (same as others on the market) really solves the problem for me. If I ever want to take it off, for whatever reason, I can and I'll have a smooth bumper to show. Chances are slim that it will come off very often, but $60 was money well spent to avoid the holes. I've always hated seeing a bracket screwed into a bumper cap.
Stillen Bracket
I have also purchased the Stillen bracket for my OHIO 05 6MT. Looks great and now I do not have to worry what the cops would say or fine me if I were caught without. Screws directly into the tow hook thread in the center of the front bumper. Good Luck!
In Texas....it is a law but a VERY loosely enforced law.
I've been pulled over twice in two months since I bought my '05 Coupe. They NEVER mentioned my front license plate.

I have been without a front plate now for a year. No ticket yet. I keep it in the trunk and figure I will tell the cop I never had the dealer put it on (they were going to have me come back and put it on, but I opted not to...). I figure I could get out of at least one ticket this way....

First of all, that immediately shows the cop its in the wrong place, so even if hes not looking for it (which they mostly arent) so that stands ou unless you were to play ignorant, and make up some story like "oh the dealer said i could keep it here until we got the bracket in" but I wouldnt want it there anyway, thats kinda dangerous.
Second of all, not all states require a front plate, so if its just on in the back then they would need to see you from the front to first notice there is no plate, and then the back to see you are from that state.
