I had that problem. The clamping of the heat shield (I hate to call it that...) would not have enough engagement or strength. The darn thing would always come off after a few thousand miles. That intake is a joke IMO.

1. Heat shield doesn't keep hot air out of the intake. Who are we all kidding?

2. It is a known fact that the A/C line in most cars will have a hole wear through from poor design of the heat shield bracket. No hardware has been made to help fix this problem.

3. JWT lies about the air filter gains. The P/C gains squat, the z-tube makes all of the gains.

6.5 rwhp at 6000 rpms, yeah right.

The only thing it has going for it is the cool sound...

I have an 04' so I don't really know if there are any structural changes where the "shield" goes on. I installed mine about a year and half ago and never had to touch it since (except for cleaning the filter element). My suggestion (assuming Infiniti didn't change anything structure wise) is to open up the bolts on that bracket as far as you can without dropping them, and shove that thing as low as you can. If it still pops out on you then just forgo it - like Neff said, it's not like it's actually preventing any heat from getting to the filter - probably more of a cosmetic solution.

As to Neff's remarks:

1. No it does not, I'm actually thinking of taking the shield out altogether. At least there will be more air circulation around that area.

2. The A/C line problem can be easily avoided by giving the tube/MAF sensor/filter element a 1/4 turn clockwise - this rotation will take the tube some 0.5" away from the line, giving it enough room.

3. Probably right. I never dynoed my car before and after the install (only after), but my butt dyno can't tell $hit. Although, the sound alone from this combo is priceless IMO.

Make sure to check out the forums on the site and post around or ask us locals if you have any questions! We only have 1 Lakeshore in the club and he won't let us all hear the end of it how unique he is!!
