Changing your own oil and dealer inspection
Changing your own oil and dealer inspection
Okay guys, so this sounds pretty retarded, but I feel like I want to know what you guys do. My car has 1200 miles on it (just finished break-in, woot!!) and I'm planning on changing my own oil...just because I'm ****. Even down the road, I plan to do all my oil changes myself (mainly because I plan to switch to AMSOil Synthetic later). However, I was wondering if it's worthwile to take it to the dealer at the regularly scheduled intervals for their inspection? Should I take my car in, and tell them to check it out but not do the oil? Am I wasting my time?
Ok, so this is what I do.
I do all my own maintenance. I have them fix things if they are covered under warranty. I have them perform inspections every 15,000 miles. I keep all receipts and detailed maintenance records.
The reason that I do this is because I have no faith in any repair tech at this point in time. The service managers don't even impress me. In most cases I know 10 times more than their "best guy".
But, with that said, cover your butt in regard to warranty. Have them document every issue small or large. Make sure your maintenance log gets updated whey they do work on your vehicle.
thats my 2 cents
