Well, dropped it at the dealer this weekend and had the insurance adjuster look at it. $2k worth of damage, all of which insurance will be covering (GEICO insurance has been awesome). If they can figure out it was a manufacturing defect of some type, they will try to get reimbursed from Infiniti but their priority was to get me back on the road.

The thead's two theories are the same ones I've heard from others: either a lit cig in the intake (MAJOR pet peeve) or a backfire (which I certainly didn't feel...and I was stopped at a light when the engine choked and I saw the smoke).

If I get any more info while they're doing the repairs, I'll post. Thanks all.

Hold up...now that I think about it...its OBVIOUS why my car caught fire...

I just wrote a big freakin' check last month to pay off my car loan! DOH.
