I had the exact same experience. I replaced my worn rear pilots with toyo T1R , my fronts still had decent amount of tread left so I left them on for now. Well I left the tire shop and it felt like the front end was loose and got a grinding howl from the front tires on medium speed turns. I had the front pilots unmounted and rotated about two months ago due to normal inside tire wear. On the freeway it felt very unsafe, I drive pretty fast. So a couple of days go by and I decided to put on my orig. 17 inch tires on the front just to test the cornering, they have only 5000 miles on them. I hit some corners at extreme speeds and no VDC or grinding. Going to get the other front Toyo's this week. Hope this helps.

I've learned a lot in my 20+ years of buying high performance tires. Never mix brands. Companies use different methods for tire making so no two brands are exactly alike. Don't even mix different types of the same brand. Tires types are made for different features. Mixing could also affect wear and tear of the differential but only in extreme mis-matching situations.

I've also learned that tire dealers will tell you anything ot not take a tire back after it's been mounted and used. Yes, they will mislead you if necessary. Sometimes theu just don't know the truth. Most companies hire a tire jockey who doesn't have much mechanical experience or knowledge. Selling tires doesn't make them an expert.

I had an arguement with the service manager a Sears Auto about tires about a year ago. I told him I wanted H rated tires for my sedan (he had previously sold me Michelin Pilot Sport AS for my coupe) because they have a more quiet and comfy ride. He disagreed and told me he knew more than me while getting upset that I would even suggest I knew more. I explained very carefully the specs and told him I had years of experience. He argued and argued that V or Z tires rode better. During the arguement one of the salesman found a manual and proclaimed that I was right. The manager turned beet red and pouted off. I learned later that not only did the mgr not know his stuff, they didn't have any H rated Michelins in stock but did have the Z. I told them I didn't care about the wait and everything was cool.

Don't believe everything a salesperson tells you. Buy new tires...of the same brand and model. You can't be cheap with a car like this. Do it right.

Ericsherbrooke, it's going to be a week or so before I can get to the shop for those front Toyo T1-R. Trying to get my damn Trans Am to pass smog, had to put another Flowmaster and exhaust pipes because I fried the old one to death. Plus wife is having surgery this week, I'll let you know as soon as I get to it. Anyway the day I put the 17's on the front I still had the 18's T1-r on the rear and it stuck about 6 or 7 35mph+ turns on a sharp 15mph turn. I was impressed with the traction of the T1-R's.
I've driven rear wheel drive cars very hard and front wheel drive cars also but I was never impressed with the handling of the G35. Its good but I feel much more secure on a high speed turn with my old T/A. I guess I'll have to invest in some sways and maybe coilovers.
