Cold air crap?
Cold air crap?
Ok, what is the point of installing a cold air intake when the first thing your car does is heat it up when it hits the throttle body?
Is everyone bypassing the coolant around the throttle body? That 190 degree water certainly isn't helping your "cold" air much.

Well, obviously the idea is have a colder start temp for the air. If you pass air of two different temperatures thru the throttle body, of course they won't have the same temp by detonation.
or, 'Warm air heated up, is hotter than cold air heated up'

So with this same thinking an intercooler is pointless. Now seriously, the biggest point of the cold air intake is getting MORE AIR into the intake manifold.

Ok, now we are getting somewhere. Lower pressure drop is a good reason to replace the air intake. Cooler sound, good reason as well.
Lets not call it a "cold air intake" since the factory design already does a good job of only getting outside air.
Yes the bypass is an easy mod. I am working on a design using a 3-way valve so I can easily swap it back and forth. I live in a relatively cold region and spring and fall can bring very cold temps. Fact is, most people who shell out the $300 for a CAI don't have a clue that their throttle body is heated.

Motordyne is makeing a new plenum spacer that will have a collant bypass with it. All it is a valvue that you can open when it's below 55 degrees and close it when it's above. You guys/gals might want to check into this. The bonus would be that you are getting the spacer as well.
