The Goodyears showed no sign of feathering but the Avons at 6000 miles feathered. Question: Are different brands of tire more susceptable to feathering? The wear rating on the Goodyears is 260 versus 360 on the Avons. Should the higher wear rating decrease the tendancy to feather. Thanks.
It probably should, but i'm guessing that if the tread blocks of the Avon squirm more when driven on, then they'd be more suceptible to feathering.

Looks like Nissan is still working on this problem for the Z.

I think this is a real problem. I just took my '03 in for 15K service (I only live 3 miles from the office) and the front tires are completely shot on the inside edges. Dealer recommends replacement at $550, realignment was included in 15K service work. I think this should be at least split with Infiniti as this is due to overly aggressive toe-in settings at the factory. It is just like the Z problem. Even performance tires should last at least 25K miles if you're not racing on them...

One thing you guys have to remember is that tire rotation and proper inflation are the keys to getting the most from your tires. I know the on the 05 (at least the 6mt) you cannot rotate the tires due to the differents sizes front to rear. I expect my tires to wear funny without rotating them you are asking for too much.

How much of an impact does tire pressure play into this problem?

i think none because its not the tire pressure that causes the feathering. its the positive caster in our front suspension that might be causing it. my 03 coupe has the same problem.
