engine cranks but does not start HELP!

I was getting an engine start alarm installed but before anything major was done, the guy that did the install tried to start my engine but it wouldn't start.

The engine cranks but it won't fire up.

He then put everything back to normal and remove what he put in (which is only the siren and door lock). He didn't even start on the engine start portion of the setup. And it still doesn't work.

Also, I just got the APS TT installed about two weeks earlier, it had no problem running, starting is slow but it starts (when i turn the key i can barely hear it crank but it fires up).

I have no clue what is going on. I asked both the alram installer and my turbo installer and they have no real answer. Any information or any clue as to what may be the problem or what casued the problem, will be appreciated.

thank you

most likely you need to bring your car to dealer to
register your key with BCM

he either f-ed you up or he didn't. just make sure to get receipts so you can go after him later if you need to.

if the guy was installing an alarm, I'm sure he's done something. You had to of driven the car there right? Then he modifies some stuff, and now it wont start. I know you said he put everything back, but I have a feeling he might of forgetten something. Also try a different key, like mentioned above you might've messed up your key registering.

My installer said he never removed the factory alarm...so would that affect anything with the chip in the key?
also, forgive my ignorance but what is BCM?

thank you for your reply

Glad you got it sorted out bro.
The 'BCM' is the body control module -- a computer that controls certain functions in the ride, that are not engine or tranny related. They have their own computers.

the BCM is pretty fragile, easy to toast. If he was testing/tapping wires and put a load on the wrong one, he's got about a grand of repair on his hands. He should know that, Nissans have been like that for a few years now.

But rule out the NVIS system and chip in key being broken.

Hi TimW,
Have you gone through this problem before?(the wires to BCM cut and
car not started) The guy at Audio Shop was trying to find speaker wires
and cut/tap some wires to BCM and now my car not started for a month
I brought it to dealer and they wanted to replace BCM and rewire all harness
(labor charge about $2500) ... i think if they just want to replace BCM only,
i am ok with that. RIght now my car left at Z car garage and i am not
sure they are able to fix it. I know that they must have CONSULT-II to
diagnose/register my keys to new BCM(if necessary)...And this tool
is available at dealers only...i hate to bring back to my dealer since i felt
they overcharge me...and the other dealers looked at my car record and
all told me to bring back to original dealer which i refused .. I have been
anxious without my car for more than a month
thanks,
mike

I have not had it personally, but I heard of many people who have. Some installers will pierce a few wires to see what they are. You wouldnt think a multitester would do much, but a few BCM's seem to have died this way. In fact, I think its the connection between the BCM and ECU that cause the problems. I guess thats the CAN/LAN connection between them. Hence the ECU related issues. Scary stuff, I used to do alot of work on my cars, I havent touched the G yet. I was really careful with my previous car (a maxima) due to people reporting exactly what happened to you.

sorry for the troubles, sounds like a mess.
