Question Need advice on ordering an 06

Guys, I have been on this board since march and I have learnt a lot in that time. My aim was always to buy the G around november, and now with the 06 about to be out, I am thinking of ordering one in a week or so ( granted they didnt fugg up the sheetmetal ). Ive never gone the ordering route though I have purchased several cars for the family. Just wanted to know how it worked so please bear with the noob questions.
Grubbs is gonna call me back monday or tuesday once their ordering system show the 06, and I am guessing that all the changes being specualted will be confirmed ( or not ) at that time. My question is
1) Do I agree to the final price when i put down the deposit? What if 06s are selling for less than my agreed price in november when the car hits the lots? Can i renegotiate the price at delivery time if I dont feel like I am getting a decent deal? What are my other options?
2) Speaking of prices, how do i know if the dealer isnt ripping me off? I know I wont get anywhere near the deal I would get on an 05 but I am not looking to pay full msrp. Should i use the percentages from the 05 to figure out markup over invoice?? Anyone work for infiniti on here that can provide invoice numbers from their system??
3) Is the financing etc, decided when i put down the deposit or when I take delivery in nov?

Any other things I should keep in mind when doing this?

Ofcourse if they decide to add clear taillights like the fx or something nasty like that then its an 05 for me! Thanks in advance.

good questions, i'm in the same boat as you. I won't have the monthy income to make car payments until novemberish. i was planning on ordering an 06 since they should be in by then. hopefully my dealer knows what the new options will be along with prices. otherwise i might have to wait and get an 05 closer to november.

1) Depends on the dealership. I doubt any will negotiate now, you'll have to wait at least until pricing on 06 models is released. Most will want to wait until the car is a few weeks away from delivery

2) You won't know until pricing is released. Remember, if you place an order now you can always get your deposit back if the pricing does not appeal to you. Ordering now before they are released will usually work against you because the dealership will know you really want the car and will be hesitant to walk away from it.

3) Usually upon delivery

I wont be ordering before the pricing is released which is monday or tuesday. The problem is that sites like Edmunds doesnt have the invoice pricing soon enough. We got the 2005.5 Jetta earlier this year and Edmunds didnt show that info untill a month AFTER we got the car.

1.) No, you do not agree to any final price when you order, you're simply ordering the vehicle with intent to purchase. Because no pricing is released at all, the dealer can't lock you into anything, BUT that also means that you won't know what you're even agreeing to pay. When you order, you will put down a good faith deposit to purchase the vehicle, which should be refundable if for some reason you cannot and/or will not purchase the vehicle.
As for re-negotiating once the vehicle comes in, that will be VERY tricky. Since you will have ordered it, the dealer will feel assured that you WANT that car, so you will pay MSRP. Even if you threaten to not buy the ordered vehicle, the dealer will probably tell you that they will be able to sell the vehicle fast to someone else, because it's a new model, and they'll probably be correct. So, bargaining power for a new car with as-of-yet unreleased pricing that a customer is wanting to order is almost nil.

2.) Assuming that MSRP prices are published when the vehicle arrives, the dealer can't rip you off on the car, because the prices are published. Now, they might try to tack on some extra advertising fees, etc. outside of the vehicle price that could be a rip-off, that you may have to watch out for. Some of these fees are legitimate, but question them accodingly, and ask for explanations.

3.) Financing is decided upon when you actually purchase the vehicle. So, if you deicde to seek out financing on your own until the vehicle arrives, you can. Or, you can ask the dealer to arrange financing when you begin the purchase process. It's really up to you.

Honestly speaking, If you order an '06, you won't get a good deal. The dealer will probably almost demand MSRP, unless you have a VPP discount, and even then the dealer can refuse VPP if they want to (My local dealer refused to honor VPP for 6MT coupes, because they made too much money selling them normally. Had to go to OH for my car).
The best move you could do for a good deal is seek out a '05 as soon as the '06's hit the showroom floors. Dealers will want to get rid of their "old inventory" to make way for the new model. This is the time to bargain.

Just my $0.02

Godo luck

I ordered my 05 in May of last year from Atlantic Infiniti. I picked my G up the first week of November. In May, I had a regular purchase receipt written out and I made sure to have my deposit marked as refundable on the order. I got an amazing deal on my car and I attribute this to ordering so early, dealing with a great salesman (now no longer at the dealship), and a few oversights by the dealrship. Also, since I had an offical reciept, I got away from having to pay for certain markups that came to pass while I awaited my cars arrival. When the announcement for the sport tuned suspension package came out, I called my salesman and made sure he switched the order for me. My financing was settled when I picked the car up. The extra months gave me time to sell my old car, save up additional money for a down payment, and locate a credit union that beat Infiniti's rates. Good luck with your order and I hope your wait isn't too long.

You talking about Suburban Infiniti in Novi? THe Sales manager blatantly lied to me about everything concerning VPP when I approached them a year ago. The few times i've been there i have never been impressed with their service.

go across the state to Pfeiffer Infiniti if you don't mind driving, much better service and honesty there.

So you guys are saying that the prices are not going to be released till the car hits the lots in november? I would think the prices would be released when the car shows up in the ordering system. This would make sense since since anyone ordering the car would like to know how much the various options end up adding to the price of the car. Also as far as price is concerned, this is the way I see it, if I order now ( with or without a price ), come november if I dont like the price relative to the deals elsewhere I can always cancel the order and maybe loose part of the deposit but make it up at another dealer. Or just pick up an 05 from the same dealer, with the original deposit counting towards the 05. What do you guys think about that? yeah i know that of course i wont get the best deal on an 06 esp compared to 05 but this is my first car I am paying for myself, and i dont mind paying a few thousand more when i am buying a 35-40k car for getting all the extra goodies over an 05. Then again if the only changes are bluetooth or the intelligent key as some dealers have promised me, I would just get the 05.

Good points but I need a car in november, so if i cant avoid getting raped on an 06 I might have to settle for an 05, but again I am not gonna expect a bargain on the 06. I will have to pay the cost having a new car that early in the production run. There is no way I can wait till the summer of 06 for the price to come down, id rather pay a little bit more now than get an 05 and regret it 6 months later knowing that I had the option of getting an 06 when i got the 05.
