Anyone with carbon hood have it fly up???

Was at a show this weekend and talking to a couple of guys who have carbon hoods on their Preludes (yeah not a G but still a carbon hood). Both using VIS hoods and have had them fly up while going down the road. Much like him, I don't want to use pins cause I think that looks stupid, but don't want the hood to come unlatched either. Anyone with a CF hood have it delatch and fly up yet? Should I even be concerned?

I had three different carbon fiber hoods from VIS on my Accord, and all were solid.

The problem lies in the fact that the CF isn't strong enough hold latch to the hood. So the Latch rips away from the hood.

it's a pretty common problem with ALL C/F hoods and most manufatures recommend hood pins.

I had this happen about a month ago - def a scary thing when your doing 60mph, talking on ur cell, and the hood flys open and blocks your veiw of the road!

However, the reason my hood flew up is becasue i didnt fully latch it after cleaning my engine bay...and because its "aftermarket" and the way the hood sat on the car, i couldnt tell that it wasnt all the way down. Then add in the fact that its a good amount lighter than the oem hood, and the thing sprung right up!

Def didnt need hood pins - but that day i sure wish i had them!

Its because they bond the hood latch to the hood and the epoxy can fail over time. We have a aluminum hood allready how much are you going to save in that regard.

I had a HKS fiberglass vented hood on my IS300 without any pins. I had no problems with it flying up but when I went over 80 it would start to shake a bit.

Not doing it for weight savings but looks instead. Besides, my stock one is all chipped from driving to work every day.

Most manufacturers reccomend hood pins as I do. (The only company who produces carbon fiber hoods that are designed to not use hood pins is Varis. They do OEM parts so their quality is amazing. Unfortunately, they don't make a hood for the G)

The reasons for hoods flying up vary...but this a reason to be picky about the quality of the carbon fiber hood you're buying, regardless of manufacturer or origin. I've seen the top layer of CF fly off at speed on some of the cheaper hoods. (once on a MR2 and once on a 350Z)

I'm going with a Varis hood on my SC300 but I am still going to use hood pins for the added safety as my car does get driven hard.
