Re: ATI Supercharger...from Grubbs!

RR dude, I like the looks of that install. Nice and clean and compact. Power boost in the 50-55% range at 7psi is good. That's at least 100 hp increase and possibly up to 130.
What's a guestimate of cost? We talking US$5k?
Wonder how the Infiniti warranty will be affected?
Sounds like Grubbs will support their customers, but what about the rest of us?
Grubbs is very customer oriented and supportive. Not everyone is so lucky tho.

Re: ATI Supercharger...from Grubbs!

The drivetrain warranty becomes TOAST, GONE, NADA, BYE BYE! That includes your engine, trans, rear, and can even include all your suspension and chassis components, due to the fact that there's now more force being exerted on everything. Don't even listen to what anyone says about how some dealerships will let it slide, bottom line is it comes to the holy buck-a-roo! Dealerships make crap on warranty repairs, pennies on the dollar, but can make anywhere from 3 to 4 times more on non-warranty jobs, so the dealerships look for reasons to void your warranty, because do you really have a choice? If your car is broken, you want it fixed! I know, because I have been there, having owned a 95 supercharged M3, the dealership pretty much voided everything on the car except for stuff like a loose door handle and crap like that.

How about this one, when I got my GMC Denali, the first mod I did to it was an intake kit. A week into owning it, my exhaust manifold collectors gasket was leaking. You know the cheap little donut type? Well, having ONLY 300 miles on the truck, I took it to be repaired, but after leaving the truck there the whole day, I get a call and they say they're not going warranty the repair, because I have an aftermarket intake kit on the truck and it increased the engines output therefore it blew out the gasket. Honest to God that is what they told me! I SWEAR! I blew up, called GM direct, and after balling them out for building sh*t boxes on wheels that need repair after 300 miles, they called the dealerships and the job was done. A few months later I ended up supercharging that truck, as well doing a number of other mods, totally voiding any warrenty on it, but that was after the fact - LOL....

Re: ATI Supercharger...from Grubbs!

DUC, remember that by law the dealership has to "PROVE" that the mod caused the damage. Your right about the non warranty repairs makin them money, so naturally they point the finger at anything not factory. BUT, if you let a dealership railroad you then you should just accept getting screwed all the time. The customer does have rights as you saw with the GM customer support. It is a hassle though to deal with whenever you want to get your car serviced. In my experience though you have to be stubborn about your rights or you'll get walked on. If they can prove that your f$#kin air freshener caused the ignition system to fail they will try. Gotta stand up for your rights man. Rambo be prepair though cuz' they are gonna try every time to prove that the ATI kit caused whatever warranty item is failing. This may be more frequent on a first year car as well. Peace.

No. Stillen is not that stupid.

They're claiming a 3 year warranty on the SUPERCHARGER and it's various parts (against defects in materials and workmanship). Your engine blows, Stillen ain't gonna do squat.

This ATI / Grubbs unit is no different. Your engine / powertrain warranty goes straight down the toilet the second that unit is installed. There isn't a dealer in the US (including Grubbs, believe me) that's going to keep that warranty going after you install a forced induction system. Not a chance.

Conquie, I was at the stillen meet and went to the Supercharger demo meeting. According to Rod Millen whom gave the meeting if you purchase the warranty program for the Super Charger it covers the entire engine and drive train as well. These were the words from his mouth so I am assuming here he knew what he was talking about and all since he works for them. Peace.

Works for them? Heh... If I'm not mistaken, he OWNS Stillen.
OK, but that's different than a warranty on the supercharger, he's talking about buying a separate warranty program that'll cover the drivetrain. Sounds good, but how much does it cost, and what's covered? I'd be surprised if it was anything less than 4 figures for the warranty, and the fine print excluded a lot of major items from coverage. Point is, I'm very leery.

Also, isn't the Stillen unit the one you have to modify the hood to install? Eeech. I'd much prefer a centrifugal unit like the ATI that fits under the original hood...

Looks nice, and power bumped up to 430hp or so, is certainly impressive. I don't think its something I would do until the warranty runs out though 5 years or so from now. I don't see the point of throwing away a perfectly good warranty, that could have quite a bit of value. Its a portion of what you pay for when you buy a new car. If you wanted to go faster right away for the same money, a Mustang Cobra would have been a much better choice, and it comes with a warranty with all that speed.

Not to mention, you throw that supercharger on, and I guarantee you're going to have transmission and/or clutch problems in short order. Nothing that couldn't be corrected with more money, but clearly you're in for more than just the cost of the supercharger with this car.

Re: ATI Supercharger...from Grubbs!

Yeah now that I think about it I'm sure he does own at least part or all of stillen. Again this is all words from his mouth not anything I read in small print. He said the warranty would include the engine and drive train and would cost in the neighborhood of $400 on top of the $3995+Install Labor (8-10hrs)+new or modified hood+intercooler+tax. He said that they were workin closely with infiniti to make the unit as "friendly" as possible to the infiniti OEM warranty. Again I don't know how much of this was a sales pitch or truth. My issue is after all those add-ons an extras the whole setup was only making about 310HP to the wheel. That was on a 350z with intake and exhaust. They dyno'ed it while we were there to show us the BIG gains from the kit. It just doesn't seem to hit the HP per dollar mark I'm looking for. Especially when there is a kit from ATI that's promising 370 to the wheel for around the same price or less and with no stupid looking cowl on the hood. Anyways I still have more cash to save and will probably have it right around the time my factory warranty comes to an end.

Re: ATI Supercharger...from Grubbs!

heh yeah, same here guys, i've convinced myself to wait until the factory warranty is over

70,000 mile warranty.....this will takes me only 3 years! By then im sure i'd be bored of this car, so a SC or TT kit would DEFINITELY be in-order!

Re: ATI Supercharger...from Grubbs!

There is a intercooled ATI set up on Ebay for 5k buy it now.

I worked at various deealerships for years and I can promise you that Dealers make a ton of money from warranty work. My buddy books 100+ hours a week at a Lincoln Dealer. They pay him 30 an hour. he told me the dealer gets paid 85 an hour from Lincoln for warranty claim hours. Thats peanuts???? They make 5500 just in labor claims from my buddy every week. Then there are the parts! That is even more money. Alot of dealerships will keep a car undeer warranty. The only ones we voided were NOS cars tha came in running with a miss or with other major engine damage. We replaced tons of trannys in superchared and turbo'ed cars. The dealer gets paid. i was told that alot of dealers are getting cracked down on. But worse case scenario, if something breaks, take the charger off and tow the car in. the install doesn't look any more difficult then any other procharger in intercooled app. maybe 5-8 hours tops. Well worth the labor if you are talking about a broken engine.

Re: ATI Supercharger...from Grubbs!

Once Stillen releases their aftercooler, how much diff. do you guys think this exta mod. will make? Then you can compare it w/ ATI.Does ATI have any project cars w/ all their equipment like Stillen w/ their cat-back system, headers coming,intercooler/aftercooler,CAI,and brake upgrades?Or is this the only mod. for the G35/350Z.I'd like to see some credibility seeing ATI is using a brand new system opposed to Stillens 20 yrs w/their supercharger.what's your guys' opinion?THANKS
