Lightbulb Advice for a newbie?

hello, I recently graduated from High School and was given 20k for a new car of my choice, but I have an opportunity to purchase a g35 coupe auto because I have been given a C level VPP sponsorship. Basically I can get it with Nav package, Sports package, Primium package, splash gards, trunk mats for $39,700 after tax's an licence with Finacial included....or to sum it all up for about $200 above invoice price before tax's an licence an I was considering putting 15000 down, would you guys recommend I go through with the purchase and I would be able to maintian the car or if I would wait I would be able to get a better deal with a new car? Thanks for any advice anyone can offer.

Oh and does anyone know where I could get the Stock Navigation Mod'd so that it plays dvd's? any feed back from this would be greatly appricated because I would like to purchase the Vehicle this weekend, Thanks again.

Giovanni

you should be able to get a better deal than that especially with the VPP and at this time of year. Try to lower it at least a thousand...

I think you can get a better deal than that. But, if the car will make you happy, and you can afford it, I wsay go for it. There will always be somebody out there who got a better deal. To get a car for almost $40k right out of high school is awesome... congrats if you end up getting it!

Use that 20K for college tuition so that you have no loans later in life, and will be able to get whatever car you want...

If the money was a gift that can only be used to buy a car then I would buy a $20K car. If the person who gave you the money is fine with using only a portion of it to buy a car then I would either drive what you have to get a $6-8K used car. You don't want to be driving a car as nice as a G35 while at college. All the cars my friends got as freshmen in college were junk when they finished college. College is rough on a car, get something nice but cheap.

Spend the rest on tution or investments. Education is the best investment, but if you have that covered already then go mutual funds. Time is the BIGGEST factor in making money. Your much better off investing $14K when your 18 than $50K when your 30.

This is definitely good advice. How early do you want to retire?

analyze your financing options. just becuase you put $15k down doesn't mean your payments will be cheaper. Mine actually came out to be around $1k more if i put $18k down so we're going to put 0 down. the financing guy at the dealer can work out all the numbers and give you a print out.
Don't forget about the INSURANCE payments, since you're a guy coming right out of highschool, i'm assuming you're around 18, and your payments will be ridiculous
I'm 21 and the payments are going to be outrageous until i turn 25.

The forum is quite wise, this morning. Heed the sound financial advice. Afford yourself some options for your future. Don't financially strap yourself, now.

could not be any truer. college is rough on a car. i would not recommend you have the G in college.

buy a used car, save the rest of th emoney, buy a new car once you graduate.

Get a Mazda 3, scion tC, or something close to those two. There are things besides just the car payments that a $30k+ car will be subjected to. Basic maintenance will be more expensive, tires go around 15 to 20k and they cost around $1200. Your insurance will probably be DRASTICALLY more expensive and gas is a biotch with the car furthering eating into beer cash I love my G35 coupe but would not want this car as a college student...its too much car for that stage in life.
