Question for 6MT owners...

I just got an 05 6MT about 3.5 weeks ago. I have about 1300 miles on the car. I've noticed about 1.5 weeks ago that I was developing a whining noise. It seems that it is getting louder. I'm pretty sure that the noise is coming from the tranny.

Here are the scenarios when I hear it:
1. I'm crusing around and I start to slow down (leaving it in gear), I'll hear the whine. If I hit the accelerator, it goes away. Also, if I press the clutch in or put it in nuetral, it will go away.
2. Some times I hear it when I accelerate. The higher the RPMs, the louder it gets. Sometimes it reminds me of a super charger.

Is this normal? I'm taking it in next week to get it looked at. I'm trying prep/gather info for when I take it in.

Also, I've noticed that sometimes I hear something below the car when I shift. I noticed that I hear more when my shifts aren't completely smooth. It sounds like the linkage underneath the car is loose. Almost like it's getting thrown around. Is that normal?

Sorry for all the questions.

is the whining noise louder at high RPMs?

upshift when you let off.. its a manual thing. sounds like your in low gears.. or you downshifted too soon. the whining noise only appears in 1st, 2nd, and maybe 3rd?

I have a question for you. One thing I've noticed that if I don't turn the car off with the clutch in that I'll have a rattle noise and a slight vibration. If I press the clutch in and turn it off, I don't have that issue. Do you have the same issue?

The service manager told me it's the throwout bearing on this car and he says it's normal. I'm wondering if it isn't normal and that the throwout bearing is bad....which is causing the other noise.

The whining when slowing down happens in all gears. When accelerating...I think it might be 1 thru 4 or 5. I'm not sure. The whine gets louder as the RPMS go up. I can definitely hear a change in sound between 2k rmps and 3k rmps.

Oh yeah...it's not that it's whining because I'm downshifting...because I'm not. It's whining for slowing down. So lets say I'm in 5th gear at 60mph....if I take my foot off the accelerator and let it slow down to 45mph...I hear a whine between 60mph to 45mph as it slows down.

its a manual thing.. is this your 1st manual in a while? if u have another manual tranny car u can go take it out and let off at high RPM it makes the same noise..

i said only 1-4th gear cause u normally wouldnt drive in high rpm at 5th and 6th gear

What do you mean by it is a manual thing? I didn't have this noise in other cars. Actually, this car just developed the noise. So if you are crusing in 5th gear at 60mph and let off to 45mph...you hear whining noise as it slowing down? I just want to make sure I'm understanding correctly. I find it interesting because the car just started this. Also, my other manuals don't do it. It isn't an engine whine. Oh yeah, higher RPMs are like 3000 to 3400 RPMs. But you can tell going from 2k to 3k.

it shouldnt be obvious... but when you let off at high RPMs you'll hear your gear whine because of the stress on it..

u said "it isnt an engine whine?"
??

if its just comming from the tranny then maybe u just never noticed it until now..

if its as loud/obvious as u say it is then take it to the dealer and drive it with the service/tech guy in ur car

Now here's the tricky part. Do you have an idea where the whine is coming from? Is it from the tranny, engine, wheels?

I have an appointment to get it checked out. I was just trying to get additional info, as I have little faith in dealership techs & mechanics. It seems like the sound is coming from the tranny. Maybe it is the engine, but it sounds different. I guess it is too hard to describe on a message forum. But usually you can hear when the engine is under load vs this other noise. It sounds different. There are three things that bug me about the problem:

1. The car just developed this problem.
2. It has gotten louder.
3. No other manual I've had does this.

Maybe it is just a quirk with the G that I'll have to live with. Thanks for the input.

I do believe its the hydraulic fluid in either the clutch or gas, simple and not a problem.

I believe that it is coming from the tranny, but it is hard to say for sure. It could be a load/stree issue as pointed out. What has concerned me is that I read on here someone else having a similar issue. They ended up having the tranny replaced. I'm not sure if what I'm describing is the same as what they described. So I was also trying to figure out if it was the same noise. See the last post on this thread.

Interesting. I've also noticed that sometimes when I press in the clutch is sounds like a small blow off valve. I was thinking it might have been the hydraulics. Last manual was a 300ZX TT which doesn't have a hydraulic clutch...so I would expect that to be new to me
