Unhappy What the!? Has this happened to anyone else!? **UPDATE**

I got in my car and drove home shut the car off. No problem. About 30 minutes later, I started my car and noticed the only gauge that worked was my fuel gauge. Tach, speedo, and temperature gauges were dead. Turn signals and Hazzards also did not work. The lighting for the gauges worked fine, as did my healights and brakelights. Ok, so i parked my car and shut it off, armed the alarm and disarmed it and restarted my car. Whew, gauges and turn signals and hazzards work, but now I have a "Service Engine Soon" light that won't turn off. Am I the only one who has had this happen? HELP PLEASE ANYONE!???

why not check with dealer ? might be something wrong and reset ecu so engine light goes away but the problem would still be there !

does doing the ecu reset clear the codes forever? or does the codes get stored somewhere else? cuase if in this case.... he clears the codes, and it doesn't come back up... and goes in the dealer.... can the dealer still read the code or is it cleared already?

Usually the ecu will just erase the codes that instant. If the problem has not been fixed then the light will pop on again. So if you have a O2 sensor that's bad, you can turn off the light, but it will probably turn back on in a 50-100 miles.

thanks for chiming in! i made an appointment for next tuesday (hopefully they don't joy ride my car). i figured that if i reset the ecu and it doesnt come back on, it may have been a glitch and the CEL will come back on if the problem still exists. in any event, we'll see what the tech has to say.

Ecu

Explain the ECU reset procedures please. I obviously understand the one where you just disconnect the battery, but what's the gas pedal one about?
I have recently put a K&N drop in filter, and I noticed my rpm drop down below before settling on the normal idling rpm speed. Would the ecu reflash correct this?
