points transfer over from state to state?

I was wondering, I got a ticket in Indiana, i'm from New Jersey, the car is registered in NJ and I have an NJ license. Would the points I got in Indiana transfer over to my NJ license?

Thanks.

I don't think that they do. My brother just switched to Virginia license and none of his points transfered over from Cali.

I dont think they transfer as well.

On a side note, was it for speeding? If so, was the 8500 not on?

haha, your in NJ. They will find out!!!

The points probably won't transfer, as the states arn't close together (neihboring states usually swap info). But, your insurance will definately see the violation, and you'll be paying higher rates for the next three years!

What does it have to do with NJ? Its up to the other state to transfer it, and the proximity of the states has nothing to do with it. New York doesen't even transfer anything over to New Jersey.

From what I know, insurance companies have trouble getting driving info (points) from a state outside where the office sits.

I guarentee they will see it, if they look. Right now I have a ticket from Michigan on my record, two tickets from Ohio, and one ticket from Pa.

I have heard that if you don't have ANY tickets on your insurance that they don't check every time you renew. If you get in to an accident, file a claim, etc.. they will see the ticket. I travel a lot for work and I was under the impression that out of state tickets don't count.

Now I pay $4,000 a year in insurance.... (4 speeding tickets within 12 months, an 04 G35 coupe, and an 02 Mini Cooper both full coverage)

Sorry bro, but that's totally incorrect. Insurance companies are the first ones to know about points. Insurance companies have an inside network program that goes from state to state. Forgot what the program was called but you can ask your agent about it.

Well, I just moved states, had a point in CA, now I am in IL. My insurance company had problems getting my driving info from CA. The agent said she couldn't give me an accurate quote until I got an IL licence if I was to be insured in IL. So, I'm sure insurance companies are the 2nd ones to know (1st one being the DMV-you get your points in court-the DMV then gets the info-so they are 2nd)

My point was just that Insurance companies are not an all-knowing massive network-Often you could even fool insurance companies by switching to another one before your policy lapses if you know you are going to get a point.

oh trust me. the insurance company will know. it will be on your record.

i got two tickets when i had my PA license. One in west virginia and one in PA. I then came to california two years later and got a new CA license. My insurance still knows about both tickets when i signed up for new insurance with anew carrier here. They even showed me the driving record.
