But you're right, black at night, clean, and waxed, is gorgeous. I just don't have the time anymore.

I saw a black G coupe roll by me the other day. The sun hit the side of it and all i could see were swirl marks. Just nasty.

yeah...I see this on about every car that I sit next to at a light. 99% of all cars have them.

Nobody is saying that black isn't gorgeous in pictures where imperfections are hidden. The concern is how do they look when viewed up close in the sunlight and at the right angle? I suppose there must be a black car that looks good under those conditions, but I have yet to see one except at auto shows and even many of them are already scratched.

There are plenty of black cars that look good up close in the sun or under high power lights. That's the entire premise of polishing and knowing how to maintain a polished finish. Here are some pictures of my car up close, in the sun, and under high power lights. My car is nothing special, either. There are plenty of well kept black cars without swirls. The average person probably shouldn't buy a black car (average being someone who washes once a month with a broom and a hose), but anyone who takes even a couple minutes to learn how to wash their car can keep a black car looking great. The key is knowing how to prevent swirls, and knowing how to remove them when you get them.

Random photo stolen from autopia.

Yes, black is harder to maintain - but if you know what you're doing it isn't that much harder than another color.

Go check out Autopia's click & brag section, lots of black cars with no swirls.

Maybe we should have just a thread for "how to maintain a black car" for all those who want theirs to look like the ones in the pictures of this forum

I think that's been done.

Really, Autopia is pretty killer if you want detailing info. Lots of information (almost too much), and you might become even more **** having read it, but it's very good.
