Unbeliveable!

I bought my G35 coupe on the 4/16. At the begining my dealer told me that my car is not pre-wired for the SAT radio. I even called the consumer affairs and they confirmed it. I was pissed off and complained a lot. They said they will let me know if they come up with some solution in the future. I already gave up on it BUT my dealer called today and informed me that they ran my VIN number again and now my car shows up as SAT ready. I called the consumer affairs and they confirmed it. What a *^%@# ??? Anyway, I am happy about it. Anyone has the SAT radio installed? How is the sound quality?

 

I too fell below the vin cuttoff point, but I was prewired. Oh well. I got XM, the quaility will sound like if you ripped mp3's on a CD (in redbook format) and played it in the G's CD player. In short is it a little bit better. Don't get your hopes up to high. Do I regret getting it? No. I don't even listen to the radio anymore, except in the morning to listen to my favorite talk who. My favorite stations at night 165 and 167. They play some old school rap like NWA and 2LiveCrew which warps me back to my highschool days.

Do all the cars have an AST control button??. Mine does, but i also fall short of the VIN # would it be fair to say that if they heve a control button they are pre wired??
Another issue is the antenna, does it look ugly???? I have seen a picture of one and that totally deterred me from persuing the SAT radio installation.
Someone brought up the suggestion to put it inside the car by the rear speakers, if that would be possible I may consider the purchase!!

 

Just cause you have the SAT button does not mean you are wired. Check the rear on the car to see if you have the open white plug where the SAT Receiver is suppose to be mounted. You can mount the antenna near the speakers if you do not have metallic tint.

My G35c was prewired for SAT, and if you have ever installed a VCR to your TV, you can do this install as well. It is that easy. Got the unit from Infiniti of Scottsdale, AZ. I like XM so much that I also purchased an XMPCR which is hooked up to my computer. IMHO, the sound quality is excellent, and better than FM. The picture shows where I installed the TERK M3 antenna, in the rear brake housing. Totally stealth, but this location does cause more drop outs than my prior placement on the rear trunk lid. May move it back there and paint it C-blue.

I just found out a couple of days ago that my car IS prewired even though I am below the coupe VIN cutoff number by about 10 or so. I finally got around to taking off the spare and the liner in the trunk to find the white connector from the prewire. I've now ordered an XM kit from Grubbs so I'll have sat radio soon!

If you have the sat button on your stereo head unit, you should definitely check to see if you are prewired even if you are below the official VIN numbers released by Infiniti.

What is the VIN Cutoff number or where do you acquire it??

 

Infiniti says that coupe VIN numbers after 210827 are prewired, but some people with numbers below that have found their coupe to be prewired...including myself. If you have a SAT button on your stereo, check the trunk for the white connector.

yeah i'm way below the cutoff and i am prewired. now i have to sell the harness that i bought.

 

Took your advice Dr. Jim,
My car's vin is way under the cutoff and after looking in the trunk it is prewired!!
I am still hessitant to buy because of the antenna placement , my choice would be an XM system because of their program choices, my question is! Can their antenna be placed inside the car and still be effective??? Pictures and information would be very helpfull , if not the three hundred bucks can go a long way towards the purchase of CD's, LOL .

 

I have metallic tint all around already so I have to mount my antenna outside and I was thinking about putting it on the trunk. If it's flat enough you shouldn't be able to see it from behind the car because of the spoiler. If you don't have tint or if you have a non-metallic tint such as the Huper Optik ceramic, you can put it inside on the rear shelf. I've also read about some folks putting it INSIDE their non-metallic spoiler and having that work well. I think I saw that at the XMfan.com forum. Once it receive the kit and install it next week, I'll try to get some pics.

i have mine inside the car on the deck, and have no problems.

 

does any one have a pic of what the harness looks like so i can tell if i am pre wiered or will i know what it is if i look.

 

This is where the harness is located , left side of the trunk under the plastic cover next to the Amp.If your trunk is clean it takes about a minute to find out, if not , good luck, lol.
By far this would be the most accurate way of finding out if you are pre wired , publications tend to have some discrepancies, even if they are puublished by Infiniti.
