Well I went ahead and decided to build my own Catback bolt on system with my buddy at his muffler shop. All i have to say is. DAMN!! This car came to life once the exhaust system was put on. We built a dual exhaust from the downpipes to right where the Y pipe was, and then did a X-pipe in that area, continued towards the back, installed 2 glasspacks to muffle the sound a little and then continued with 2 pipes to the rear of the vehicle, to where 2 pipes enter the muffler, and 2 pipes exit to the rear using the stock tips. We took the puppy around the block, and it just winds up the RPM's like nothing now. We throw the vehicle on the dyno afterwards down the street at another shop and with the stillen intake and custom exhaust system, the vehicle yielded a HP gain of 21.3.
Now to order my Borla headers and ill be all set.

What pictures would you like to see? The back end of the car looks stock. You cant tell the difference. Thats what i like about it and thats the look i was going for.

Hey Jim!

How much would it run? I'm interested in a "stock" looking exhaust...and how loud is it....details!!

Well its a stock look, the muffler is tucked up above the rear apron, so you cant see it, and everything from the axle back is painted black so you cant see it very well. We cut the stock tips off the factory muffler and put them on this. The setup will run 450.00 installed for everything.
I'm gonna put the car back on the lift this weekend to make sure everything is running ok and clearance is alright, and ill take pictures of the underbody at that time.
Anything other than stock on this vehicle is gonna make it louder. I have personally heard the borla and I wasnt really impressed after I heard it. Too quiet and i heard they are having some issues with them on the 350z's. The internals of the muffler start to rattle and thats not something im looking forward to on my car. At idle, my setup rumbles a little more than stock, between 1500-3000, it sounds a little tiney or ricey, but after that, everything over 3000, the intake and exhaust rumble together and make this puppy purr. What i did notice so far is that my RPM rev up quicker and the shifting between gears is smooth and the car continues to accelarate at a much greater speed.
As a note for anyone that decides to build their own system, i recommend you install high flow resonators(glasspacks) and do a X-pipe. It balances out the tone and will lower it a notch. Without the glasspacks, the system sounded like a Honda civic with no cats on steriods.

All I have to say is good luck to everyone on the groupbuy for the borla exhaust. I've been doing some research on it and it seems they have always had problems with their systems. Do a search for Chevy and ford exhausts, and you will find a rather high number of unsatisifed customers. The 350z guys are having issues with their as well already. Not something I want to deal with or put on my 35+ thousand car.
But to each their own, and good luck.

I did the same thing. I put together a 2.25" dual exhaust system. It starts off with and H pipe followed by two Blue Streak glasspacks. The muffler is an "X" type MagnaFlow mouted in the stock location. I also used the stock tips. Sounds great, goes like stink, and only cost my $400.00 installed. I did paint the muffler black with BBQ high temperature paint. I couldn't be more pleased with the system.

I'm curious -how can your home-made exhaust produce almost twice the HP gains of Borla, Stillen, etc.?
