Gonna AutoX tomorrow...
Gonna AutoX tomorrow...
First time I've run one, but I can't resist. Aside from kicking VDC off before commencing the run, any suggestions??

Where ya Auto-X'ing? I've run with Porsche and BMW club a few times on the South Shore at TOBAY beach, Long Island.
Suggestions wise, If you can, swap your street tires with a set of road racing tires, that would help A LOT! Tires and the right suspension setup is what wins Auto-X's.
Believe it or not, the guys with the radically low and "tuned" syspension systems, often do the worse (Im sure you will see), as well as those cranking out crazy ponies, becouse it means nothing if you cant keep the power planted on the pavement.
Keep an eye on your tire pressure every now and then. DO NOT remove your spare tire, which many are so quick to do! Trust me, you won't gain anything on a short road cone course. If anything it will help keep the rear where it should be.
Keep between a 1/4 to 1/2 a tank of gas. You wont need more. Be prepared to be worked to the bone like slaves, and only get a few runs on the course.
Good Luck!

SCCA's CENLA region will be running at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center in Gonzales, La...
Closest venue to me where they AutoX regularly and CENLA would be the SCCA region I'd join, so I said "let's go do it."
I'm going to take it easy...not out to win any trophies or secure bragging rights...and DEFINITELY don't feel like eating a set of tires right now...but I just want to push the edge a lil bit without having to worry about traffic...

Re: Gonna AutoX tomorrow...
I'm not sure if you're driving a manual transmission but if you are, you probably don't have to shift beyond 2nd gear. Once you get going from the starting line, you probably don't need to downshift either unless there are some really sharp corners on the course. So mainly focus on the turns and the timing of your braking and acceleration. I've tried AutoX once and there was a 350Z at the meet. I was able to get better times than the Z. I was surprised. I'm not downplaying the Z but I was using it to gauge my performance. It has a comparable set-up as my coupe except for my Brembos. Anyway, have fun!

Yeah, 2nd is generally the highest gear you need. If you have an automatic, put it in manual mode and set it to "2" before you take off, so it doesn't get into the higher gears. And be smooth about applying brakes, throttle, and steering.. don't slam from full brakes to full throttle, for instance, or you'll wind up pointing the opposite direction in a hurry. Oh, yeah... and have fun! Next AutoX near me is Aug 3.

No racing for me...lol...my employer has decided that I NEED to be offshore today...like immediately. UGH....and I was keyed up.
Of course, I could have told 'em "no," but then again, they're paying my car note ;-)
The price we pay to play the game...I'll try to catch next months event and post results, observations, etc...
