What speed not to exceed during break-in.

What speed (MPH) should you not exceed during the initial 2,000 mile break-in preiod?

Re: What speed not to exceed during break-in.

It's in the manual: during the first 1200 miles don't exceed 4000 RPMs, don't accelerate hard and don't hold RPMs steady for prolonged periods of time. Don't brake hard either. That's about it.

Re: What speed not to exceed during break-in.

says 60, but thats not always safe.. I wouldnt do over 75. I dont think the wheel bearings need *that* long of a breakin. But I wouldnt heat them up much right off the lot. Same with the tranny.. Try not to build up too much heat.

I've heard of failing wheelbearings on 5th gen maximas, so its not unheard of.

These motors are already broken in right after they build them in Japan.. Just change oil right away like 1k - 1,500k and you will be set..

not true.. Toyota & Honda yes, Nissan no...

BTW, you make the most HP at 5K. Another difference is that the VQ is a 200K+ motor, the others are generally not.

Motor's probably fine, but you're also breaking in the transmission and drivetrain components.

Re: What speed not to exceed during break-in.

a tech at a dealership from Infiniti manufacturing said they do not break in the engine before or after they install it in the car. They just make sure it works, put it together and ship it out.

Re: What speed not to exceed during break-in.

My cents. I agree that it is my belief that you should not exceed 100 MPH during break in, prolonged RPM rate i.e. Long Fwy usage, is probably not good on motors that support Variable timing, or so that I have heard. Can someone educate me on the VQ, is it variable timing controlled?
