The G's computer is sensing the same sat's that your handheld is sensing. It just takes a minimum of 3 sat's to figure out your location on the earth hence "tri"angulation.

I worked on the GPS system in Colorado Springs for a few years, I can tell you for a fact that those sat's only transmit positioning data so your computer can locate you. The G doesn't send anything to the GPS sat's about your car. No offense ment, but the US has bigger worries then our cars

Side note: There are a minimum of 28 GPS sat's in orbit at any givin time and usually a couple of spares in case of a critical failure.

 

RINO - any word on this. It has happened to me multiple times over the last several months in my sedan. First losing sound. Then that crazy modem sound.

I thought I'd read that there were quite a few gps sats. In fact I've just checked out my Lowrance hand held and it shows 12 sats on screan with #'s that go up to 31. In that respect it's more detailed than the car navi.
No offense taken on the 'big brother' thing. I'm not that naiive to think "they" need to follow the likes of us around; just the immagination doing a little overtime. hahaha
Since you've had some experience with sats and GPS etc, what's your opinion of the Navi in the G? Some comments have favoured other systems or other functions, I just wondered what you thought. ..Thanks.......
