Purchase timing
Purchase timing
I was wondering if there is a best time to purchase a Coupe. I'm saving my pennies for a down payment and I won't be ready until november but I was wondering if I should wait until the end of the year. I purchase big dollar computer gear at work because of my postition as network guy and I get good deals at the end of the month, better deals at the end of the quarter and great deals at year end. I know I'm not going to do better than list price and there is a backorder already, so should I wait?
Re: Purchase timing
No snow in So Cali. I guess I'm looking for a bone from the dealers. Let's put it this way, I'm driving an f****ed '89 Civic hatchback with 190K miles that sometimes doesn't start when it's hot. I've never had a new car so if I could get at least a freakin' key chain, I'll take it.
Re: Purchase timing
try to secure yourself a 2004 now (so that when you get your DP ready, you can take delivery). expect to pay msrp, you won't get anything significant off (maybe 500 if your lucky), so might as well enjoy the vehicle for as long as you can.
Re: Purchase timing
in my opinion, find out the final day of the month when orders have to be placed. i placed mine on 6-3 and i'm in nj. my theory is that it is a guaranteed sale for them. they get to place order for a person (which is guaranteed alottment) as opposed to dealer stock.
i played one small dealer off big one, little guy wanted to steal sale. did so on order day, over phone, no test drive. told him it was easy sale, just paperwork. got 1000 off msrp.
turns out my order is an 04. the first shipment. in fact, my price is 1000 off 03 msrp, for an 04 that will then have price increase.
just my theory.
old theory used to be end of month so they don't pay floor space fee (interest), but i think this is more accurate.

Re: Purchase timing
if you place an order now - 1k refundable deposit - it won't be ready until November/December anyways. So why wait? There will always be a two-three month waiting period unless you want to take your chances and find one on the lot that meets your specs. Considering how many colors and options there are, that's pretty difficult.
You can try playing the game that our NJ brethren did, but in California the dealers are pretty confident that anything they have will sell and sell fast. Most of them are getting away with charging more by adding on dealer extras like Lo-Jack and tint as a way to get more than MSRP, so here, getting MSRP is itself a deal LOL!
