if there were to be a v8, it wouldnt be a g35, it'd b like a G40 or a G45. Infiniti names their cars by their motor size...

G35 = 3.5L
FX45 = 4.5L
M45 = 4.5L
QX56 = 5.6L

And infiniti wouldnt put out a 3.5L v8

Well, Nissan does have the 4.0L VQ so you COULD have a G40, however, the current VQ40 is tuned for torque than horsepower for truck use.

New 325 have a 3.0L, old 545/745 have a 4.4L, new 550 is a 4.8L.
CL/S/SL600 have a 5.5L V12. Old C230 have a 1.8L S/C, and new C230 have a 2.5L V6. New C280 have a 3.0L.

So no, it doesn't always give you the exactly displacement. So far, only the Japanese automaker make the name resemble the exact displacement.

So is the 07 g35 still a decsendant of the skyline or is it going to be built as an Infiniti from the ground up? I would think that the next skyline would have to be available in Japan first before it comes to the US. Maybe they are released in both countries at the same time?

About going against the 5 series...I take it as a compliment...the 3 series was never much of a choice...

Seeing any exterior changes will be nice, but I'm much more interested in the underlying mechanical changes that would justify the statement that they are "taking it the the next level".

I think they would be wise to show a concept very soon... take some of the attention away from the new IS and 3 series...

anybody know whether the coupe will be out in 07 or just the sedan? Also, will the 07s be available with a 6 speed manual?

Both the coupe and the sedan are supposed to be shown at the NY Auto Show in April. A prototype coupe will be at the Detroit Auto Show in January. I would expect a 6-speed manual to be available, since it is for the current car.
