This post is for owners of 05 6MT (19" Sport Tuned Suspension) Coupes.

I am running into the most horrible rims on tirerack for 17" winter tires. I want the ASA JH3's but tirerack does not show it for the 05 6MT's. ASA's are decent looking cheap rims out there.

Here are some questions for 05 6MT owners who have a winter setup:

1. What rims are you using? Please specify brand and sizes.
2. What tires are you using? Please specify brand and sizes.
3. Does staggered fit matter?
4. You think buying 19"s Snow Blizzak LM 25's and putting them on stock rims be advisable? They cost about $914.

Would appreciate your response.

 

1. OEM 18" rims
2. Dunlop Winter Sport M3's 225/45/18 in front, 245/45/18 in rear (staggered)
3. Opinions will differ regarding staggered setup-I think a staggered setup for the winter would be good b/c you have a staggered setup for the summer stock (feel would be more similar)
4. No-I don't think it would be advisable to rock 19" snow tires-they are very pricey-and for winter tires-you want a decent amount of rubber and the narrower the better get through the snow-Most seem to rock 17"'s, although I compromised for the 18's w/ a witner performance tire (the lm-25's are a studless winter tire, not winter performance (speed rating would be less and it would not handle as whether in dry whether).

 

I agree with jonnylaw. We don't get much snow in MD and when it does snow I telecommute. But if I had to get snow tires I'd go with the tirerack option. Granted the rims aren't that great but the price is right. Remember that safety should prevail over aesthetics in the winter, and you are only talking about three months out of the year.

 

I was in the same situation as you... I was looking at the ASA JH3's, and hen I called in to actually order, they were sold out. So I was forced into buying some sportline POS. They look horrible, but should be easy to "clean". And by that, I mean throw away once the corrosion gets too bad from not cleaning.

God they're awful.

I wouldnt buy the 19in snow tires, you risk more damage to the rim driving in the winter and switching tires twice a year.

remember when you're looking at wheels on tirerack, anything listed under the 04/03 6mt will also fit on the 05 6mt.

The tire rack site is screwed up. Just order the ASAs for an '04. I even called my order in and the guy said they were sold out and all they had were a few much more expensive rims. I then had him look them up for an '04 and they had plenty.

I would recommend manually picking the tires and wheels...sometimes they don't list what you want when you select your car first.

 

OEM G35 17" wheels will work for us won't they? I asked this question a couple months ago and a number of 05 6MT (19" Sport Tuned Suspension) coupe owners had replied with that response.

Where are those owners now for comment? Speak up if you're out there guys! If the JH3s are out of stock I'd probably rather so with the 17" OEMs off eBay or something.

 

They should work better than aftermarket (guaranteed no issues w/ vdc or abs since OEM). You can also use 17" nissan 350z wheels w/ no issues.

 

I am getting the following quotes:

1. 17's package with cheap looking wheels for 1094.
2. 18's package with ASA JH3 for 1497.

The sales guy at tirerack told me that the 17" ASA will not work on the 05 6MT Coupes because its 19" wheel brake calipers are bigger.

So I am guess in 18" wheels should fit on my 05 6MT coupe?

 

I just purchased OEM 17" wheels with the stock rubber on them. Havent put them on yet.

I had a 04 5AT last winter with the OEM 17" wheels and tires. It performed OKAY for a rwd car. The main trouble was ground clearance, especially when we got 3 feet of snow dumped on us during that blizzard.

well, if you looks up the '04 coupe 6MT (ie, brembos), they come up as being compatible. They also come up for 350z with brembos. I'm almost positive that the brembo brakes need more clearance than the 05 6MT brakes. I could be wrong.

In any case, i'll find out tomorrow or the day after when they get here.

 

The website at Tire Rack does not bring up all the options. When I called about it, they told me that the computer has trouble matching up the offset tires.

They quoted for me today the 18" JH3 rims with the LM-22s at $1565 delivered. They won't show up on the website though unless you manually pick them out.

 

A status update:

I got the most fugly wheels ever made: The sport edition D3. 17" (with dunlop winter sport M3, 225/50/17)

They fit fine. No stagger. For the front wheels, you'll have to take off this little bolt thing which I believe (if I remember right) is just there so you don't put the rear wheel on there by accident. Or something like that. I've had no issues so far, and no, the brakes don't come off cause you took it out.

Anyways, it is EXCELLENT in snow. Us cleveland area monkeys just had our first (of many) lake effect snow burst. 12" or so. Lame. But, the dunlops handled them fine, and good god, they are so much quieter than my 19" that are feathered.
