They Got Me, and maybe you too...

Bought a 2005 coupe from a dealer near LA, used with 11,777 miles on it. Flew down from S.F. to pick it up, drove home and went to sleep. Got up and drove to the local dealer to get bitched out by the salesman for not buying from him, then went to service to inquire about the front tire roar. "It's a coupe, they all do that. Besides, you are out of alignment warrantee with over 12000 mi. on the car."
Went back to the dealer six more times, called Infiniti consumer affairs five times, (they read from a script), talked to four other dealerships...no one has heard of this before. Except for the mechanics in the back of the four dealerships who said everything from
"A coupe? Align it every 6 to 10,000 mi. to. Oh yes, those are like that."

I am going in to pay for an alignment and two new front tires tomorrow because of the front tire roar(the rears were replaced by the dealer @11,777mi. before I picked it up.)
B.T.W. Infiniti consumer affairs woman told me she was no "technical expert," but she believes the previous owner beat the car to cause the rears such wear to be replaced so early and he probably hit all kinds of stuff to cause that front end to be off.
My last two cars were a 993 and an X5, so this is not my lack of experience.

These folks just don't want to own up to this.
I don't know, Infiniti has more money than all of us put together, yet we are the ones paying for their mistake, the same one as the 350zx. I'm just pis**d and feel completely yanked around and I'm sure you are too!

Class action anyone?

I am not a lawyer

THat's already happened with the new 350z, I'm not sure about the g35. It's a well known fact called "Tire Feathering"....do a search on the forum for more info. BTW, Goodluck!

They did get quite a few of us. If you're feeling up for it, contact the lawyers who handled the 350Z case. I have paperwork from the first few times I took it in with the complaint, so if alignments don't fix it, I'm going the lemon law route.

Basically, us G35 guys have no initiative. oh well.

You guys think it's because not many people are experiencing this problem? I have a 2003 and the only time my fronts were out of whack is because I lowered it an inch. I still have the original Michelins that wore perfectly even. Good luck, but you should count your losses, buy a good set of control arms and be done with it. You will probably come out way ahead in the long run.

I agree here. You make it sound like all 20,000 G35 owners (just the 05's) have this problem. So far, I checked my tires and they look fine (I'm at 4600 miles). When I get to 11,999 and have the dealer check it out and find out there's a problem, I may sing a different tune. But so far, I haven't had a problem.

Not because of experiance, or the cars that were set up right from the factory.
For the people that have worn inside tread, 05 or what ever year, gone to the dealer and been brushed off.

I have read the threads.

Sorry to hear that, really. I hate having to argue, yell, etc. to get a point accross or to have things done. I totally think it is the dealer that will make-or-break the reputation of a Car Brand. Hopefully, I won't get this type of hassle if I have a problem because my car has been good to me and I really take care of her.

Worn tires will do that...it's no ones fault. If it's the OEM 19's, you should've gotten atleast 15K, but if the previous user did some peel outs before selling it, then this is all normal and new tires WILL fix the problem...its not so much feathering. Feathering is when the inner portion of the tire is wearing out quicker than the rest of the tire, in which case would also cause the loud roar sound you are experiencing. I say if tires worn evenly, you are ok.

First, welcome to the forum. Second, welcome to the g.

Third, I don't understand your complaint. I understand that you have an issue with premature wear, a disproportionate roar, and crappy service, but I don't understand how you can indulge in discussing a class action suit.

Maybe I've incorrectly inferred your meaning, but it seems that you are familiar with the tire feathering issue. Did you do the research after the purchase of the car, or were you aware of it prior to purchasing it?

If it *is* indeed the tire feathering issue, and you didn't know about it beforehand, then I understand. However, if you knew about the potential for such an issue, and still bought the car, then I don't consider it "ethically consistent" to try to escalate the issue to the level of litigation.

But that's just me.

Er... I had the original 18" tires to over 16k miles, driving schools, mountain passes, aggressive corners, AutoX here and there - and I don't recall ever having tire feathering problem. What do you mean by 'tire roar'? I know the stock tires get loud after 5000k miles, but that's not the same thing as tire feathering.

wait, you went from a 911 and youre upset about alignments and worn tires? A used car at that? I'm not discounting your claim or anything, I wish you the best of luck resolving it... But you've owned performance cars, I'm assuming long enough to perform maintenance on them. I'm not really sure were the outrage comes from.

If you dont trust the dealers, find a good independent shop. You could also probably look on the dealers network for the car history and see if this is why someone unloaded the coupe in the first place. Or perhaps the tagged a curb. The vehicle history would help.
