i dont really drive the car hard 24/7 tho. I wonder what people are doing in order to get the grind? Hit redline every shift??? LOL I usually shift at like 4-5k on normal driving and occasionally wot it. Maybe I should just drive the crap out of my car..

Not sure who you referring to but my Civic has 146k on the odometer with an original gearbox and clutch. Do I need to say more?

Plus I would never do anything that would hurt my G as I am like 90% of you out there who pamper their G's. Just accept the fact that our cars are machines (with many moving parts) and they don't all act the same.

Today I just revved up to 3k while sitting still a few times, pushed in the clutch and tried to ease the car into 2nd and it makes the whole car shake. I am seriously pissed off as a 36 thousand dollar vehicle should not have filthin' tranny problems.

Any advice? Has anyone tried different tranny fluids like redline? Is it true that the synchros are made of cheap material? Whats the deal?? Someone please tell me that my brand new car is not a friggin POS.
I am no expert in shifting, but I been on stick for almost ten years. I have 6mt but never have that kind of problem, in fact the first 500 miles on a new tranny + clutch suppose to be smooth and precise, you might want to take it back to the dealer for a check up? afterall we pay a whole lot for this car

My early 6MT '03 started grinding 2nd to 3rd shifts at 25,000 miles but the dealer only finally agreed with me now at 31,000 miles, after complaining three times. They finally ordered and installed a brand new tranny and clutch. I had the first generation and was given the latest sixth generation. The difference is HUGE! The original '03 was notchy and stiff, but the clutch was progressive. The new tranny is buttery (i.e. Honda) smooth, but the clutch is not as progressive. No more grinding, though. By the way, most of the problems I have had, and they have been fairly significant, did not rear their ugly head until at least 20,000 miles. Some of you are saying " no problem, 1000 miles." Are you kidding?? Give it a few years and a few miles. I have had the CD jam (replaced), the DVD rattle (replaced), the original glass streaks (repaired), the array of door and dash rattles (attempts to repair), the rear axle click (replaced), the gas guage not going to F (not fixed), as well. I have one year left on the original warranty, but will sell or trade in 11 months or so. Strangely, I still really like the car. Wish I could say the same for my marriage.

I don't start at 3k in 2nd gear; you misunderstood me. I normally shift ( in any gear) between 3 and 4k rpm. So, to simulate the same senario i revved to 3k in neutral, then depressed my clutch and tried to shift into 2nd. It caused the car to shudder a bit every time. It's like the synchros are not engaging well.

If anyone has some legitimate info please chime in. Otherwise keep your sarcasm to yourself. I've been driving manual tranny's on the street and track for years. I don't appreciate comments about my driving skills when you don't even know me.

No disrespect intended, dude, I guess I just misunderstood you. Like I said, I'm not expert either, but I'd recommend getting it checked out. Mine seems pretty smooth... I think you have good reason to be upset after dishing out nearly 40K for a brand new ride. Good luck, man.

There have been several posts from G35 owners describing problems that they are having either upshifting or downshifting and mostly involving the first and second gear. My suggestion is that any time anyone encounters something unusual when shifting and wants to determine if it is typical for the G35, drive another G35. There are lots of them around on Dealers' lots. After a quick test drive, you'll then know if the problem is unique to your car. If it is a problem and not just some quirk that all Gs have, make the Dealer fix it.

Why would you be trying to put it into 2 gear with the car not moving. Even though you were "reving" the engine the drive portion of the trans was not moving because the car was not moving. It should not give you any trouble in going into first gear while the car is not moving but the car was not desigend to be put into 2 gear with you reving the engine and the car not moving forward. That being said you may have a problem with your trans. I have a 05 6mt with 11k and the trans is better today then when the car was brand new. The stiff 1-2 shift is gone and there is only a little resistance on the 1-2 shift if I shift at very low rpm 2k or so.

I would suggest you drive the car normally and try the 1-2 shift after the car /trans have warmed up and I dont mean just sitting ideling, you must drive the car at least 5 miles to warm up the trans fluid. Also make sure you have the clutch fully depressed when you make the shift. If the car is brand new you may want to dirve it for a while to break in the gears/syncros.

Good luck with your trans.
