6MT sucks

I've read several posts from people needing new tranny's in their coupes. I have just over 1k miles on mine and from the day i bought it the car is hard to make the 1-2 throw unless I shift at like 2k rpm. If I shift in the 3k rpm range it gives me a real quick grind. Today I just revved up to 3k while sitting still a few times, pushed in the clutch and tried to ease the car into 2nd and it makes the whole car shake. I am seriously pissed off as a 36 thousand dollar vehicle should not have filthin' tranny problems.

Any advice? Has anyone tried different tranny fluids like redline? Is it true that the synchros are made of cheap material? Whats the deal?? Someone please tell me that my brand new car is not a friggin POS.

I would take it back into the dealer to have them look at it...

Lightbulb 6mt's

My 6mt doesn't suck like that.

When it was brand new, it had a little 1st-to-2nd gear grind, but that's gone away now. I don't know if it's because it's broken in now, or if I'd just gotten used to it and subconciously found a way to shift it without any hints of grindage.

My tranny is fine too. I have an 05 with 7200 miles on it. I know some people are having problems though. Good luck.

Not every car is going to be perfect, even ones that go for 30K+, thats why they give you the warranty. Just take it in, get the free rental if needed, and be glad your gas tank is falling off like Ford.

I dunno dude, mine has about 1500 miles on it and I haven't had any problems at all. I'm not an expert at driving stick either, but I can get around. Starting at 3K in 2nd gear probably isn't great for your clutch though, and I'd guess that'd make any car shudder a little bit. I'd say take it to the dealer and have them check it out.

Your tranny shouldn't grind.. it may feel notchy, but definitely not grind.

If you want smoother shifting, i'd suggest switching to Amsoil MT-90 gear oil in the transmission.... but this problem you're having sounds like it could be a defect. Maybe a bad transmission or syncrhos, or possibly your clutch isn't completely disengaging.

Don't try changing your tranny oil unless you have a dealer look at it first, that way they can't blame it on your choice of transmission fluids.

No problems here, as well, with some 9300 miles on a '05 6MT. It actually shifts quite smoothly in all conditions.

what a nice way to grab people's attention on G forum.
thats the reason why you testdrive before you get if you havent.
if you have, thats why there's warranty.
i know it's frustrating that you have to take a new car to "dealer" but things can happen unexpectedly. it's not like you wont have any problems when you get mercedes or bmw anyways. (my aunt sold E500 due to so many problems)

No problems here after about 9k miles. It was a bit notchy when new but after more miles and a switch to Lucas synthetic it works great.
