Hilarious.

Rondel (BMW CCA mag) did a GREAT article a few years ago comparing a 330i w/ summer tires, 330i w/ winter tires, and 330ix w/ summer and winter tires all driving on a closed course in the snow. AMAZING. Basically, w/ winter tires, the 330i performed remarkably close to the 330ix that it looked to me that the difference was driver skill, not drivetrain. It made a Blizzak believer out of me.

Like others said, get some winter tires (blizakks, dunlop m3's, etc.)-Oh, and I would recommend bundles of paper in the trunk instead of sandbags if you really need extra weight in the rear for traction-if a hole gets poked in a sandbag, you get a big mess in your trunk. Whereas if you get a hole poked in some paper bundles-no mess.

Chains and studded tires were legal back then.

The more permanent solution is to move somewhere where it doesn't snow very much.

Agreed, that's a matter of choice....

I choose to live where it doesn't snow.

Never used chains or studded tires on a car in my life. We just used snows on the rear, and managed just fine. My '74 Z-28 Camaro with 12' wide Firestones on the rear acted like it was on marbles in a 1/2 inch of white stuff, but would plow powder with the front wing with skinny snows on the back. Those snow tires didn't have near the siping and compounds that todays tires have.

Similarly, a jetski would completely suck on a frozen lake.

Get winter tires.

You can't drive in the snow with summer tires. Thats a death wish. They simply are designed against that.

All seaons would be bearable.

Winters would be ideal.

So when I went to get my snows to get put on, the tire place was 8.8 kms away.. ity took me about 45 minutes.. i was ready to sell my car... but now that they're on, i love it again.. you can drive reasonably well when you have to, or go nuts with VDC off when you want to (which seems to happen alot!)

Speedgeek - good job... your post should get some sense in people.

Dave EH - Like everyone here is saying get WINTER 'dedicated' wheels and tires.

I cant believe some of you have driven in snowy conditions with summer tires...

More like they get squirrelly when it's < 50 degrees and moist. My G would constantly fishtail whenever I took it out when it was <50 degrees and the pavement was wet.

Since we don't get all that much snow, (but quite a bit of cold rain), I put on Pilot Sport All Seasons, and don't have that problem anymore.

If you put snow tires on it's not that bad... it's not that good... but far from bad.

You know what really sucks in the snow? 300hp SUV... well... it's how you drive it. But I see more of those stuck in the ditch then anything else.

i could really care less about getting stuck in snow rather than spinning in snow...

i'm trying to make a decision on getting a G.. but I don't know yet, this would be my first rwd veichle and ofcourse I would get snow tires.

my previous car.. Evo is all wheel drive.. with summer (OEM) tires it would fly off the road but with snow tires I can be cruising with 2-3 feet of snow.
