Idle RPM

I've had my G for a month now . . .I love the thing. Great car. I've had no problems or glitches to speak of in about 1,200 miles. I have one question though . . .

Especially with the air conditioning off, I notice that the car idles at a very low RPM when its warmed up, so much so that its pretty lumpy at idle. It frequently hovers around 700 rpm. Is that normal, or should it be closer to 900 rpm where I would think it would be a little smoother?

Let me know your thoughts. Also, does humidity and/or type of gas make a difference (I've been using only Amoco Ultimate 93)?

Re: Idle RPM

700 RPM sound very normal, My "G" hovers at that speed also, however my engine is very smooth, I have a little over 10,000 Mi. but to tell you the truth I do not remember if it was ever rough at earlier mileages.
What brand of gasoline do you use? At least in my case I try not to use the 7-11 type of brands, in my experiences good grade of gas helps and is better for you engine.

Re: Idle RPM

Hey I am experiencing the same thing, infact i started a thread about it last week...

My car idles at 700 for a few seconds, then goes down to 500 rpm, maybe that is why i am getting the engine sputtering, just like you Patience4G35.
Seems like this is a pretty common side-effect on the 6MT's

Re: Idle RPM

My 6mt holds warm at 650 rpm neutral....3500 miles on the clock. 91 octane.

Re: Idle RPM

Rambo, is that idle something you've always noticed or do you think it might have something to do with the grounding kit?

Check out the above thread about the Hyper-Ground Kits. I a now a firm believer. I had the same rough idles prior to installing my kit. Now my idles are constant around 500 and smooth as silk. It used to swing back and forth between 500 and 1000 rpm. The engine just seem smoother at all rpms.

Re: Idle RPM

Hmmm, just what I thought . . .its something that is inherent with the car . . .

I also notice it more when the climate control (ie. air conditioning) system is totally off. Today, I was out with the car and had the air conditioning on . . .and it was hovering smoothly right at about 850rpm. Yesterday, without the air conditioning . ..it was giving me a slight sputter at 650 rpm.

I also think that humidity has something to do with it. I find that weather has a significant impact on this car.

Just my thoughts. I'd be interested to see what a service technician would say . . . .

Mani, i did not notice the sputtering until last week, i dont think it has anything to do with the HG kit

Re: Idle RPM

I was just out with my car today for lunch, and had my air conditioning on . . .As I thought, the car was idling relatively smoothly at 900 rpm. I think its a tuning issue when the air conditioning is off. Let me know if you have the same observations.
