dropped clutch by accident at speed in 3rd

hello all.

was driving yesterday about 30-40 mph, got a phone call n got distracted (i know, i shouldnt use the phone while driving, but i figured it was ok since it was a red light coming up), so i clutch in to go into neutral but for some reason i forgot to shift into neutral and then i just dropped the clutch, really really fast. heard a loud thunk come from the back (?) of the car and the revs jumped from about idle rpm to between 2.5k-3k really fast. what did i just break? do i need to get my tranny checked out TIA

So.. you were rolling at something less then 30mph and dropped the clutch while in 3rd?
If that is the case np. It would have jerked the car a little but shouldn't hurt
anything. If you were stopped and dropped the clutch while in third (with brake on) you probably killed the engine.
Once again should not be a problem. I don't understand how the engine rev'd independent of the gas pedal.
If that is what you are implying. I would guess that is not good. Typically you want the pedal
to increase the rpm's not some random event.
I have had many manual transmission cars thoughout the years and it takes a lot to hurt them.

yeah basically i was doing about 35mph and dropped the clutch while in 3rd.. the car did jerk kinda hard and i heard a pretty loud thunk coming from the back, i think.

the engine didnt rev independent of the gas pedal, it just revved to about 3k rpm really really fast, cuz i dropped the clutch really really fast in 3rd going 35mph. and when i say really really fast, i mean really really fast, cuz i thought i was in neutral.

Come on man, do you really think that tranny is this sensitive? Don't even worry about that.

+1... don't worry about anything. there's nothing wrong with your car. everyone makes mistakes. just be more cautious in the future.

You should be fine....now if you were doing 80 mph and thinking you were dropping the clutch into 6th gear but it was third...then I worry

3rd is a low gear. So you dropped the clutch? It's no worse than when you were learning to drive shtick and grinded into 1st all those times.

NO issue at all. Learn some better driving habits though.

If it'll help you ease up the guilt, you can wax the car this weekend to make it feel better.

do you have an auto?

If he pushed the clutch in, the RPM goes back down to idle, and if he just drops the clutch again without shifting, the RPM will jump back up to where it's supposed to be known as a "rev match".

That's all your car did, don't worry about it
