285 hp. Acura CL Type S ??
Just got off the phone with a friend, he claimes that the new 3.2 CL Type S is gonna be 285 HP and he's getting one. Did Honda/Acura step up and answer the call of the G?
Personally I still think that a 6mt would roast an auto 285 Acura. But has anyone else heard this rumor??

The CL is being discountinued due to very low sales....But some dealers do sell CL's equipt with comptech parts.usually headers and exhuast.rims, lowering springs, ground kit.ect....so its possible they have 285 after that but its usually around 10k additional.

Yeah, the CL is discontinued, but the all new '04 TL should be hitting the roads really soon. Originally, it was reported that they would have 280 HP, but I've also heard that the horsepower rating will actually be 270.
Either way, seems like a good competitor for the G35 (coupe or sedan) as far as performace.

yea, the car sounds like it'll be competition for the G, but keep in mind who makes it and what its gonna be for. Acura's making it...so that means its emphasis will be on Luxury...it's also a FWD...so i don't think it'll be even CLOSE to being as sporty as the G. It's not meant to be...it's meant to get a family from one place to the next. so our G's will dust it...!!
But i DO have to add that the next TL looks awesome...inside AND out. still not as nice as the G coupe, but IMO, nicer than the G sedan. interior is cleeeeaaaann too...check out www.vtec.net for more info...
2003 Diamond Graphite 6-spd w/ Premium, Aero and Navi...it's a wet dream come tru!

GEEZZ.... did you guys get a load of those pics of the new TL. its nasty. It looks like a TSX on Roids. WTF ? the current TL is soo slick looking and when you add the body kit and lower it a bit...looks soo sporty.
I cant belive that HONDA messed up themselves like they did. its not even worth for that car to come out like it is. its not all that IMO. the interior is nasty and the looks on the outside... dont compliment all the secrets they had prior to its introduction.

first off, you're definitely not talkin bout the CL as it's discountinued as the others have said..
secondly, i've also heard that the new TL Type-S will be 280hp with 18" rims and brembos i tink.. not sure, but it did caught my eye when i read the report.. honestly, i've driven hondas before, and even if they do up the horsepower, they still will have no torque.. one of their major objectives at honda is to provide consumers with a fuel efficient car, hence, the more torque, the less fuel economy.. thus, even IF it is released with a 280hp engine, they still won't be as fun to drive IMO..

As a former CL owner, I'd have to say that Acura's brain-dead stylists helped kill the CL the most, at least for me.
The only reason I never considered getting a new CL, and instead jumped ship to the G coupe, was that god-awful boring amorphous jellybean shell they cursed that car with. (That and the lack of a manual tranny, at least initially.) It was an ugly duckling among modern coupes.
I had no quality issues with my old CL. It was flawless mechanically. I loved my Acura service department (and still miss them; my Infiniti service leaves much to be desired). But that shape ... ugh!
Just nothing there to get the blood flowing. They should show those gutless designers the door along with the CL.
