Muffler rattle and my dealer

My car has this rattling noise which is mostly evident with the driver's side door open and when you shut off the car, you hear it rattle. It also rattles when going into lower gears, revving at around 2k rpms.

Anyhow, took the car to the dealer, and they diagnosed the problem as being related to a broken bracket attached to the catalytic converter. Dealer said that the issue is not covered under warranty, and the only wya they can fix it is by replacing the whole cat converter for nearly 1300 bucks. he told me that I could tkae it to a regular muffler shop and have them try to weld it, but other than that it is not a warranty issue. Not that there is a problem with the functionality of the cat converter, but they refuse to address the noise its making, which I thought may be a warranty issue.

Kinda like a loose panel in the cabin rattling, and they replace it for free because the issue is with the noise, not with the actual part being functionally defective. What is your opinion on the matter (i would have been happy if they simply welded it back, I dont care for a brand new cat converter for no reason).

Huh, they don't seem too friendly or eager to help.

If it were mine, I'd find another dealer who, it seems, would only have to weld the hangar back on the perfectly good cat.
Shouldn't be that big a deal.

Dropped mine off at the dealer today for the SAME issue - We'll see how they respond.

I had the same problem. But the rattle was coming from the rear glass too. The dealership basically siad the noise was caused by my exhaust. So then i dynomatted the backseat and trunk and heavily cushened the rear glass area. The rear glass rattle is gone, but the one in the door is still there. I will dynomat the doors this summer. I figured i would rather fix it myself rather than have them say its my fault again.
