Bad day....

Let me vent guys....

So I went to a client site and was not going to take my G. But thought, "naw, go ahead, it'll help to break it in a little more" (as I only have 220 miles on it)

When I get there, their driveway leading to their front door is about 500 ft down a steep incline, but I thought nothing of it. But on my way back up, leaving their property, in order to make it up the incline, which is about 37 - 40 degrees, in my estimation (and it turns as you go up) I obviously had to put it in first gear and I left there until I almost got to the top. RPM's were at about 2800 or so until the top. Then I shifted to second right before the top, and I heard a rattle noise come from the engine as I accelerated in second. I didn't like that sound at all, and as I was going down the hill street back to the city, I was trying to pay attention to see if I heard it again. I was so concentrated on hearing the sound that I almost missed my turn onto a street that I had to take, that when I did make the turn...

I CURBED MY REAR RIGHT WHEEL!!!

I hate the fact that I did that. And while it's not that big of a scratch on the rim, I still hate the fact that it happened. I've never done that before.

And to top it off, since I had to go back to that house, on the way back up again, I heard the same rattle-like noise as I got to the top and shifted to second.

Sorry for making this so long guys, but I just wanted to let out my bit of frustration.

But please anyone, someone... tell me that the rattle is normal giving the circumstance. Tell me I can fix my wheel... just console a fellow G35 owner... Could I've busted something on the incline since I haven't broken in the engine yet?

Thanks!

It'll be fine. Granted its not the best thing, but there should be no problem. Next time, dont shift until you're ALL the way up the steep incline. And don't stress out.

this kind of thing is very normal for a new G owner. you get so caught up in the little things that you don't notice when the big bad things happen. luckily, in your case, the "big bad thing" wasn't that bad at all. wheels get scruffed, doors get dinged. not much you can do about that. just enjoy your gorgeous ride as much as you can.

At 2800 the rpm's were not high enough to switch to second? Especially at the top of the an incline...so it gave the feeling like almost stalling. That's my guess.

But anyway no biggie, curbed wheels are pretty easy to fix. I honestly think as in door dings or scratches, it's bound to happen sometime. Sucks to have happened so early though. I'm under 200 miles in, still keeping fingers crossed....

your engine was just bogging when you heard the sound. dont worry, just concentrate on finding a good rim repair shop. gl

Strange Noise

I've had that noise on my 04' as well when going up hills. I'm a technician for the "other" Japanese luxury car maker, and it doesn't sound right. It sounds like the car is about to stall. Has anyone taken this into the dealer to have it looked at? It almost sounds like "dieseling" which is caused from bad gas but I only put 93 octane in the G. Anyway just curious.

I get that stalling noise sometime when I shift too early. Regarding the wheel damage, it happens to the best of us. I know exactly how you felt but trust me, you'll feel better in a few days. Check out my story:

* I curbed my wife's E320 Benz a few years ago while parking when it was 3 days old; the wife was pissed!!!
* My nephew started my new 3-day old '06 G coupe a few days ago WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING. Nasty sound and although nothing happened I was pissed for a few days; got over that now.
* Got a huge rock chip on the hood just 1" above the clear bra; tried to fix it and it GOT WORSE!!!
* Got a flat at 700 miles on the G, the tire shop left a mark on the rim. I tried removing it with a scrub pad and SCRATCHED the rim!!!

The moral of the story? Things break, people get old and sick, nothing is permanent but change, and attachment is the cause of all suffering.

Enjoy and be thankful for what you have at the moment, for you never know what'll happen tomorrow. It's just a car
