Octane boosters
I met a guy at the gas station with a 350Z. We were pumping gas into our rides and I noticed that he put a bottle of something in his tank before he started pumping his gas. I asked him what it was and he told me it was an octain booster. He said he put it in at every two tankfulls. He stated that it gave his Z added perfomance.
Has anyone used an octane booster, or has any knowlege about them, and are they safe to use?

I used to use it every now and then in my 67 Mustang. It would help keep the engine from knocking, especially if I was using regular gas. I have used it a few times on my other cars. I can't say for sure it really helped, but I don't think it will hurt your car any to use it every now and then.

Bottled Octane booster, LOL.
Read the print, most bottles will boost the octane by 2-4 points, guess what a point is? On the right of the decimal. So for several dollars you are raising your octane from 91.0 to 91.3 in Cali. Not at all worth it. If you really want to raise your octane, do a search on Tolulene and Xylene. These are the hydro carbons that the turbo crowd has been using for the past 10 years. Not the safest chemicals there is, but neither is gasoline for that matter.

First of all that 2-4 points would make a 93 octane grade upgraded to 95-97 octane grade which would be pretty close to what Shell, BP and others sell in Europe (98 octane). And the only affect for a car that is not mapped for higher octane levels, would be the end of any knock offs at the start-ups and shakes during slow moving traffic. 100 octane petrol is available by Shell now. STP and Restore are pretty fine brands for such octane boosters. I used to put a bottle into my tank prior to the availability of 98 octane petrol.

In Canada, there's one called "Nos" octane booster. They got 3 kind, the one I bought with me is "Racing Formula".
It said;
"Increases Octane Effect as much as 7 points"
"Stops Engine Knocks, Pings and Hesitation
"Improves Horsepower"
and some logo that wrote
"contains MMT with Powertane"
"with Nitro methane"
I will use it when summers come, let you guys know if there's any different.
94 Octane + Nos Octane Booster = ?????
