N/A setup with UTEC, Emanage, etc?

Just curious to see if anyone has one of these engine management mods with just N/A mods (intake, exhaust, headers, cats, etc) and what your impressions of this setup are...

What numbers are you putting down? Was it worth it? Any other suggestions for this setup (clutch, flywheel, gear set, etc)

The reason i ask is because i REALLY want a Turbo, but due to my situation right now (many factors) I just cant take the plunge.....BUT, i want to make the G quicker in some way. I was thinking about doing a nice N/A setup with a nice eng management setup and hope for high 200whp #'s....like 275-285 to the wheels? Is that a reasonalbe number?

Any info would help me out.............

w/ all the breathing mods, probably ge tan extra 10-15hp out of it.

but if you can afford all those n/a mods and utec, you can afford to turbo.

I was thinking along the same lines.........

Some ricer math...

Intake = 2-3whp
Exhaust = 5-6whp
Headers = 3-4whp
Cats = 2-3whp
Plenum = 5-6whp

so thats like 15-20whp gain right there......then drop the UTEC in - good, quality dyno tune 'should' yeild another 10-12whp im thinking....

For a total of around 30-35whp gained...which should put me right around 275-285whp correct???

Total cost would prally be around 3000 (i already have intake + exhaust)...so id only need a few of the items + UTEC (or whatver) + tune...

Money isnt the issue here, its daily-driveabilty and reliablity that really concerns me. I cant risk having a high-horsepower monster as my only car, can justify getting a second car right now (space issues), and dont really want to half-*** a Turbo project - which means doing it right will be 10,000+ in my mind.....

So this route will give me some more fun out of the car, be faster than the stock G35s i see, and still allow me to beat the ***** outta the car, hop in on a cold Philly moring and start her rightup, and go to work day after day.

Any more thoughts on this?????

i think your ricer math sucks ^_^

the plenum, headers and cats alone will give FAR more powe rthan the exhaust can - stock catback is pretty decent; it's the plenum, stock cats&headers that really blow

so adjust my numbers then - dont just say they blow and not offer your opinion on what they "might be"....

cmon now...one ricer math equation deserves annother?

Yea, with good mods and a good tune, i could be running some solid times.....but im mainly concerned about how it feels on the street...

Headers
Plenum
Intake
Exhaust
cats
pullys
UTEC
Flywheel
Clutch
dyno tune

that would give me a nice lil UMMFFFF in power dont ya think???

Headers $700

Intake $250
Exhaust $700-1000
cats $400
pullys $200

Flywheel $200
Clutch $200
dyno tune $100

It will definitely help. If you dyno stock around 240 RWHP, and the above gains 50 crank HP, with 20% loss, you will be around 282 RWHP. The Stillen Stage 1 is only $3800 and they claim 67 RWHP gain instead of your estimated 42 RWHP N/A gain. You have to change the hood for $600 or so, but still $4400 total parts cost. Basically a wash, but almost 60% more power. Your choice.

You bring up an exellent point - and this is EXACTLY why i picked this route. I dont want to go F/I unless its a niiiceee TT setup...if i cant do that, they i dont want to even bother. So with this N/A setup im proposing, id still have NICE gains in power, the car would feel faster on the street/track, and id still have the reliablity of basically a stock car.

Still have some research to do, but im leaning towards this idea........any N/A mods i missed that would help me out???

Thanks

One thing to keep in mind is that those type of mods dont just pile up the HP, some actually cancel each other out. Its great to have a free flowing exhaust and intake but different combos yield different results.

Good point. I def want to get a few expert opinions on what combo's work well with each other and what parts will be maximized with the UTEC (or similar chip)...i heard from one shop that a N/A G35 came in for a UTEC and they got 20 MORE whp from it after it already had seen good gains from the sum of its parts!!! Thats encouraging!

Still learning, researching, and debating - but i really am likeing this idea more n more.....

Clutch, Flywheel, and gears would DEF be a cool mod to do as well.....give me a chance to really 'use' all the power ive added.....

im going to search for a vid of a 350Z w/ a clutch and flywheel.... after seeing this vid ur gona want one too! another thing that you might want to consider that i was considering a while ago is an exaust cut out... for those who dont know what that is: its basically a motor driven valve attached to your downpipe. When the valve is open you are running basically straight headers, by deleting the cats, resinators, and mufflers (the whole exaust system) you are running the "freeiest" flowing exaust. I have driven a car with a cut out and i noticed the gains in higher rpm's. Now for the pros and cons.... Be warned there is a chance that you may lose hp and tq in lower rpm's because there is no back pressure. The cut out if used on the street is illegal and is only for track use only . Pros: 1. Sounds amazing!! IMO the lil back fires sound like pure muscle. 2. It is more cost effective than getting cats and an exaust. 3. You get to keep you stock exaust, which also sounds really good. 4. With a simple switch from the in side of the car you could open this badd boii up. *** also on a side note... properly tuned (correct fuel maps) i dont think you would see a loss in hp and tq down low... most likely a gain
