yes sir, i love working on my car
My accord is pretty easy to change the oil, my honda motorcylce was a piece of cake, my suzuki took a little longer, my aprilia take longer than most but only cause I'm more carefull. I haven't gotten my G yet, working on that as I type.
about those rhino ramps, after three failed attempts to drive up them, i found that putting a large piece of cardboard under it stopped it from sliding backwards. I may go out and buy a pair of doormats for use instead of cardboard in the future.
Just got my G and I'm looking for some pointers on DIY oil changes. I prefer to do my own for all the same reasons listed above...it's cheaper...general distrust of anyone else touching my car when I can't watch them..etc. (For example...I can't bring myself to pay $70+ for a synthetic change because I tend to think they're just going to put regular in and laugh at me as I'm pulling away.) But also because I have the free time on the weekends and it feels good to DIY and know it's done the way I want it. My 5th gen Maxima was a piece of cake to change...I could do it flat on the ground with no ramps, jacks or anything. But from reading a few threads it doesn't seem like the G will be quite as easy. I have a couple quick questions for those who have already done it...
#1 - Where is the oil filter located?
#2 - Do you recommend jack + stands or ramps? (03 Coupe, not lowered)
#3 - What number Mobil1 filter does this use? (My Max had the VQ3.5 and it took the M1-105...just wondering if this is the same.)
#4 - What is the Infiniti recommended fillup amount with filter change? (Didn't get an owners manual with the car.)
Thanks for any help.

#1 & #4 : download a service manual. The one from my sedan should be sufficient, you can get it here.
#2 I don't have ramps and use jack stands all the time... you might as well get a good set of jack stands and a floor jack to do any other work on the car. Just make sure you get a set of jack stands with flat heads so as not to damage the side skirts. Look at the example of jack stands here.
#3 Whatever works for any VQ should work for this one.. but ofcourse I'm not sure on this.. I think either the M1-109 or M1-110 are the correct filters to use with identical bypass valve pressues and thread sizes.
im getting the 07 and i plan on changing oil at 400, then 1200, then do it in standard 3000 mile intervals, im putting a new oil filter on it after 1200, any suggestion on company, and becuase it will be winter, what oil should i use, oh yeah my friend is giving me a free magnetic oil plug, what do they do? thanks for the input

I'm assuming you're going to use petroleum based oils.. and in that case stick with the 5w30... nothing fancy - just about any starburst petroleum lube will hold up find for 3 months or 3000 miles. I don't think the filter change is neccessray at all untill the manufacturer recommends it.. i'd keep it on untill it's usefulness has expired. The magnetic plug might be nice, but it will skew your oil analysis results if you choose to do one to determine the appropriate oil drain interval for your driving habbits w/ the oil you are using. I'd suggest reading some oil analysis reports on g-owners.com to get an idea of what oil/filter combo work best. I stick with amsoil series 3000 and amsoil oil filter. I change the oil every 7500 and the filter about every 20k. This way I change the oil about 3 times a year and the filter once (it's specified for one year or 25k anyways).

Let's see if I do it myself I have to go to an Auto Parts store and buy oil and oil filter, jack up the car, remove and replace covers, remove the oil and oil filter, add new oil and oil filter, and dispose of the old oil and filter. It will take me approximately two hours to do all of those activities or I can drive to my Infiniti Dealer who is about five minutes away from where I work and have them do all the work in 15 minutes for about $40.
Hey man the decision is not that tough in my case, and if that means I'm not an enthusiast, TS.

Anyway to make the long story short, removed a dozen + bolts fromt the under tray, empty the oil for 1/2 hour, and put in 5 quarts of oil. Started the engine and checked the level. HOLY CRAP! it was way about the high level. Is my quart too much? BTW, dipstick suck big D!ck!! Its hard to poll out without making a mess and its hard to get an accurate reading on the oil level.
ughhh... I'm just venting.
But seriously, is 5 quart too much? I got the 5qt. Mob. 1 container and dumped the whole thing in. late.
