Today when I got back from lunch at work I noticed a wierd line near the passenger rear window when it curves to the fender. It looked like bondo that wasn't sanded well in that area. I know I wasn't seeing things because when I put my hand over the area to cover the sunlight I could still see the line. My father also noticed the same thing. When I drove back to my house I kept looking in the same area and couldn't see it anymore. Has this happened to anyone?

If you see it again you might call your car insurance company and see if they have a paint thickness gauge. Ask for the material damage "SIU" (Special Investigations Unit). The industry uses these to check body shops for fraud (billing for new fenders when these used bondo instead, etc.) If they have one expect to go to them.

It is not uncommon for cars to be damaged and repaired before delivery. Hopefully what you saw was just an illusion because if there is repaired damage there may be a fight ahead. Anyway, this is one way to eliminate one possibility if you still need to run this down. Good luck. -Jim

 

I parked at the same spot at work and couldn't find the line anymore. I'm glad I'm not the only one that's crazy. Sometimes I just sit at my office starring at my car.

One of my friends pointed out the same thing on my car also. It was on the drivers' side. You have to look REALLY hard to see it, I think its just the curves of the car, because its not visible all the time (at least I don't think it is) I think it just depends on the way the light is hitting the car.

 

ok now I see the line again, I guess it's the way the sun is hitting that particular area. Should I be concerned? Does this happen with all cars?

Are you sure it is not the residue sticky stuff from the tape that they stick over the hood, fenders, roof, and trunk? Sometimes the porters do not fully remove the residule sticky material and you can see it depending on the angle. Try waxing the area and buffing it out to see if it will remove the defects.

 

It's not the the tape stuff, since it only appears in certain angles of the sun, like where I park at work.

Do you mean it like a line inside the paint or is it a 2 inches line like indentation ? Because I think I have the same problem. It is only visible at certain angle and looks kind of bad when its visible. I brought it back to the dealership and they said that anyone could of did it.
