I kept it under 4K RPM around 600 miles because of the Clutch break-in after that I steadily increase my RPM every 200 miles. Manual is only to cover their own A$$, so if you follow everything they tell you then you shouldn't use Synthetic Oil and should not buy aftermarket parts.

Just as a side note when I bought my car the Senior Sales person (now he's the Sales Director) told me to not worry about the break-in, even their Senior Tech guy just said it's broken in from the factory and the only thing I should worry is be easy on the breaks/clutch on the first few hundred miles.

He also said that his friend that baby'ed his G run slower compared to his other friend that beat the crap out of his G

The never ending story I heard just the opposite from a senior sales guy as well. Hell, I know guys that ran their cars hard when they got it so guess what? They now have problems with transmissions, clutch, weird noises, and not-so-good gas mileage. As always, do what you think is best for your car. I think it is bogus that the car will run better then a car that is ran hard from day one and vice versa. Logically speaking, isn't it always better to break things in a bit slowly no matter what you bought? I'm not just talking about a car but alot of things in life. Just food for thought

those are common problem with the G and not associated with the engine it self hence breaking in the engine. As stated it is good to be easy on the first few hundred miles like not breaking real hard (only for emergency of course) and not dumping your clutch at 5K RPM and not slamming the gear hard all the time. You can follow the manual but if you keep Power shifting and dropping your clutch at 5k then now manual can save you.

at the end it's your call because it's your car. and these topic will never end.

There is a thread here and 350z on a dyno day that most guys who ran their car hard had better numbers than driver who baby'ed their car. But there was one who put up big numbers stock but also consume more oil It could be just a bad engine or engine abuse.

When "breaking in" a car your just seating your rings really.. id say after a few hundred miles run it like your gonna drive it!! Every mechanic I know says break in is crap! Plus we have a thing called Warrentys... and yes dont use synthetic till 10-15k.

Hmmmm.... my brand new motor in my cobra was broken in by 3 dyno pulls... Once the rings were really seated we were able to add more timing and make 30 more rwhp.

BUMP...
Ohh yeah, this is my first post by the way.
Anyways, I've been thinking about all of this as well...
I just got my 2006 G Sedan and don't know which route to go...
I guess one should not baby nor push it...that's the safest way to go.
My cousin who has a TT G Sedan (dealt with multiple engines) said that for 80% of the time, RPM's should be 4,000 or below...but you should gradually open the engine up as well (20-30% throttle), it won't hurt it.
I have 50 miles on my car and have taken it to 4,000 many times as well as 5,000 (about two times)...remember, it's not about getting there quickly...open her up slowly.

Did a hard canyon run with my car having only 300 miles on it and changed the oil at 1000 miles. Car runs better than ever having almost 20k on it right now.

WITH JUST Z-Tube back then

Hope this helps.

Whether its true or not, I'd say be safe and go with the break-in.

I think every car has to be maintained as hard as its driven. Thats my personal aproach about taking care of the car.

Easy way to answer the question.

If you own it, trade it in when the 4yr/60,000 is up.

If you lease it, who really cares.

A car is made to be driven for a prupose. This car is a sports car and should be driven like one.

I own the car and had the first oil change at 1000 miles , next one at 4000 and have put Mobil 1 with the stock filter every 4000 miles since.

Just my thoughts.

I opened my car up at 300 miles...and drove it hard afterwards, followed by 1st oil change at 1k miles and the next at 3k
