I hit a lexus rx330 from behind the other day and it was barely damaged.
just a little dent in the rear bumper cover.
and this person gave me an repair estimate of $550
I feel like i'm being cheated because I expected around $300 since she's not replacing her bumper cover. She's only repainting it and 550 just seems too much.

the details are
--------------------------------------------------------------
Description of work Labor Paint

REAR LAMPS-Side marker lamps assy -> 0.4 body

Rear bumper-bumper & components ->
Repair rear bumper cover 5.5 body 2.5
+None(0.3) +clearcoat(1.3) 1.6

Other operations
R&I Rear bumper step board 0.4 body
Hazardous waste disposal $5.00
cover car for paint $5.00
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Body Labor 6.3.hrs $44.00/hr $277.20
Paint Labor 2.8hrs $24.00/hr $67.20
Clearcoat Labor 1.3hrs $24.00/hr $31.20
Paint Supplies 2.8hrs $30.00/hr $84.00
Clearcoat 1.3hrs $30.00/hr $39.00
Misc $10.00
+Tax $42.60

Total = $551.20
--------------------------------------------------------------------

I understand the cost for paint but what I dont get is the body labor charge.
It takes 6.3 hrs?????????????

Plz give me some advice..
Thanks.

Pay it!
Pay it and be done. Be happy she is not insisting on going through your insurance.

If it only costs you $550 to wash your hands of an accident that was YOUR fault, pay up and move on. She could be after $1 mil ya know. "Oh my neck!"

I would say "Pay It" too, and save on the insurance premium in the future.

Obviously, I don't know how much damage was done to her car, but my G35 was rear ended a month ago and it will cost over $1,200. So, $550 doesn't sound too bad. On my car, you don't see a lot of damages on the outside either, but there is damage underneath the car that you can't see unless you look under the car.
If there is anybody ripping you off, wouldn't it be the paint shop? I mean, are you saying that she's telling them to put on the estimate a higher price and then they split the extra $100 or so? Doesn't seem worth it for either of them for $100 and possible get in trouble with the law.

Like everyone else says pay it off, I only wish if I fell into your situation I could get off that easy.

if you think its too much... then get an estimate from another shop... and it looks like you are paying out of pocket without insurance getting involved...

why do you want to go thru more hassels for only $550. Like everyone else pay up, think it was part of your deductible...

i know you don't want to hear this but $550 seems CHEAP to me. some other repair estimates that i can remember (friends' cars) for minor rear bumper work:
- old a$$ nissan sentra $800
- honda accord $1200

for $550, i'd be relieved.

I'd say it might not hurt to ask for a second estimate, but in the end I'd just pay and be done with it.

Most places will not charge only $300 for a bumper repaint. Just pay her and be done with it.

Are you kidding? All i can say is if someone hit me, i was nice enough to let them just pay for a repaint of the bumper and then they didn't like how much the estimate was i would tell them forget it, make a claim on their insurance, take it to the most expensive place i could find and also demand payment for the diminished value and rental car.

Pay the 550 and be try to be more careful.

Im from the Autobody field and yea i agree thats pretty cheap, reason being is that they use a estimating software that automatically enters the time for labor and everything. So i say go for it and pay the amount.

But make sure after your done paying the damage ... you should make a written statement that you and her agreed to the settlement. (its important).
