My tire wear pictures

Stock Michelin Pilot Sports 225/45/18 fronts and 245/45/18 rears. This is after 40,000 km (25,000 miles).

Left Front:

Left Rear:

Right Front:

Right Rear:

New Yokohama ES100's. I know they're not as good as the stock, but this will do for now.

Before I had these tires swapped, there was always a "growl" when traveling at low speeds. Not sure if it was due to abnormal tire wear or tires are worn.

Have your alignment checked NOW! The sound you heard was "cupping" of the tread due to a slight misalignment. Looks great!

Would I not have heard it again when I swapped my Winters on?

The rears look pretty good. Even wear. Just slightly bit more on the inside edges, but that's normal due to the camber.

The fronts however, looks out of spec. Inside wear is a lot on both front, but the front right has bad wear on the inside and ok wear on the outside. The front left has pretty even wear on both edges. Both fronts seems like they were under inflated, but it was probably from a lot of city driving with lots of turns. The center still has plenty of tread.

Thanks for the analysis. I am the second owner of the car and tracked the G once with these tires. So hopefully with this set of new rubber, I'll be able to better monitor the situation.

Do you think I need an alignment as well? The car does drive straight and I don't hear any growling at low speeds.

Do you drive it like you stole it?

If my tires go after 5k miles, I'll be trading in the G or change my driving styles.

Depends on how many miles you put on them. The tread "cups" when the toe is out.

Yes, you should definitely check the alignment. Camber or toe issues don't always make the car pull. Beyond normal tire noise, you won't hear any growling until the tires start to cup or feather. By the time you "hear" the problem, it's already too late. Poor alignment can destroy tires in just a few thousand miles.

I don't agree. I am about to change my stock PS as well after getting 29K miles out of them. My front wear pattern is identical as the pics at the start of this thread. I also have the loud growl from 5 - 30 mph. Definitely due to cupping, but this wear pattern is due to the cant of the wheels.

Due to the "cant of the wheels"?

Cant - Angular deviation from a vertical or horizontal plane or surface. The tires are canted inboard.

Sorry, I'm an engineer...
