Girlfriend Burned Clutch - Advice.Suggestions?

Okay - Girl has had experience driving stick before, I've even let her drive 2 times in the past with no problems. But the third time was bad..real bad.

We were coming home from a friends wedding, and the plan was that she drive since I would be the one drinking. On the way home she was in 2second gear and all of a sudden she laid into the gas waaay to hard. (I assume she was still feathering the clutch or just dropped it too quickly and stomped on the gas). Next thing I know I smell burned clutch for the next 15 minutes . Smell finally dissipated after that. Rest of ride home no more issues. Other than I felt like giving someone a bitch slapping.

I'm trying to assess damage here: Car has 8500 miles. Before this, I was able to go from stop-to-roll in 1st just clutching, no gas but VERY,VERY carefully...or a stall. Now - I am able to roll into 1st just clutching VERY carefully and I can do it in 2nd too VERY,VERY carefully (though I have never tested this in 2nd prior to this incident). There is no slipping of the clutch in normal conditions. but I thought the stop-to-roll in 1st AND 2nd was a bit peculiar. Doing it in 1st seems a bit easier to do now as well.

Obviously this 15 minutes of smelling my own personal hell was not good for the clutch and I know LONG TERM (>100K miles) this will lead to sooner clutch slippage than w/o this one incident due to the glazing of the metal plates.

All you 6MT people - Am I being paranoid regarding the clutch pull, or is this 'clutching w/o gas' typical for our cars at the 8500 mile point and should I not worry about this horrible 15 minute raping of my car. Please chime in - are any of you able to go from stop-to-roll just clutching, no gas in 1st AND 2nd?
Or should I replace my clutch plates?

Needless to say that was the last time she will be driving my 6MT.

How much for this upgrade? Did you replace the plates yourself?

Anyone have a comparison for my situation with the OEM clutch?

Replace clutch or girlfriend.......??

If you really like your girlfriend you must teach her
how to use the clutch. Don't let her left foot anywhere near the pedal while engaged. My Dad
showed me how to make a clutch live forever and I
educated my family, including my wife. haha LOL

Agreed - I have no problem teaching people...I've taught 2 people to drive manual, and 10 others how to improve their track-riding skills on MCs. Normally, you do this on a beater or on their equip. But I'm just trying to access damage and repair (if any). Thanks..

BTW - you gonna share your knowledge and tell me how to make a clutch live forever???

It took awhile for my wife to really learn how to drive stick smoothly, your clutch should be fine and can be replaced(stock clutch is junk anyways). It is priceless being with a girl that can drive stick and very useful if both are traveling long distance, she can be you designated driver when going out too....

No secret, use first only to get going. Matching rpm to allow you quick engagement of the clutch. The sooner you quit slipping the longer it lasts. I've had clutches in trucks last 200K.

Slip the clutch once in second and you think the clutch is gone....

Teach your girl friend to drive and you'll have many more miles and years of trouble free manual trans driving.

it has nothing to do with the durability of the transmission really.
