from what i have heard it is not going to hurt your car. But you dont really save that much money going down just one grade. I would say just stay up at premium gas.

All the gas stations I see it's about 10 cents a gallon saved going to 89. So say you fill up 17 a pop, that's $1.70... Go walk down the street and pick up the $1.70 if it really bothers you to pay it and keep your peace of mind knowing it's 93/91 in there.

Why? How much money are you going to save? Have you done the math? Dead empty, the G holds 20 gallons, yes? If regular unleaded (87) is .20 cheaper than premium (92), and .10 cheaper than mid-grade, you're only going to save $2.00 - $4.00 per tank if you drive her down to dead empty.

What's the point? Is $2 to $4 per fill up that much of an impact on your budget? If so, your budget must be pretty tight..

Personally, I'd cut back $2.00 - $4.00 per tank somewhere else before I short-changed my G.

Will it hurt your car? It's possible (knock/detonation). It will impact performance - whether you feel it will depend on how you drive it. Others here have said the lower octane produced worse mileage (which negated the savings of decreasing quality to begin with).

Whenever I'm tight on money I go to Citco and get 91 octane instead of 93 and save like 7 cents a gallon and just put 20 bucks in

Why buy a luxury sports coupe with a big fat v6 if you're not willing to pay for gas The G has never had a good reputation for mpg so you knew what you got.

When you run the numbers it really doesn't save you much. So no I wouldn't bother playing around with 89 oct gas. Just goto the cheapo station and put in 93 if you want to save a few bucks.

the computer will adjust to the octane and you won't get the full performance of running 93 but it's not goign to save you that much in your wallet unless you're driving a number of miles a day

like above stated.. downgrading your gas will not save you much money.

why not think about downgrading your car... I'm not trying to be a jerk but I even considered this recently myself, I mean you can buy a car with way better gas mileage, cheaper insurance, and lower car payments if you have them. Now that's saving some cash.

I was considering giving up the my 04 G35 for 06 Civic SI, please don't flame about this, It is a big downgrade but hey.. nothing wrong with the 06 SI.. it's a way better design than previous generation which I think was horrible.

It's a reliable car, takes 87 grade gas, great mpg, decent interior and exterior.

I couldn't do it tho... what helped in my decision is all those hot girls looking at my car... no I'm just kidding... my girl is going to kill me

I don't want to sound like an assh0le, but as the saying goes, if you can afford the car, you can afford the gas.....and the insurance...and the maintenance....etc....

...and three 20oz MD's a day. Worse than smoking I guess. Anyway, your mileage may even decrease a little with lower octane, so now you washed away that $2 you saved, and made your G suck on that 89 or even 87 crap. The G loves and needs the best gas to perform.

Please save us the trouble, because you'll be back in a week wondering why your G doesn't perform as it used to and not know why. Then it will take 90 posts until you figure out "oh, it must be that lower octance gas."
