What is My Car Worth?
What is My Car Worth?
What is a good way to figure out what my car is worth for private sale? Is Kelley Blue Book accurate? I have an 04 Laser Red/Graphite Coupe with Premium package, mudguards, no nav, no spoilers, 10,300 miles, stored winters so no salt, cinders, etc so it is in near showroom condition. I guess that would add a little bit on top. Anyone want to throw some numbers at me at what I could advertise it for?
I sold my first G last spring. Here's what I would suggest.
1. Get a KBB/Edmunds/Cdn Black book value. Call your friendly banker/finance/loans officer and find out what he/she says.
2. Here in Canada we have www.autotrader.ca, not sure south of the border, but I'm sure you have a similar weekly used car rag. Check the prices there.
3. The former prices will be low, the last will be closer to what you can expect, but recognise that autotrader is filled with over-inflated dealer prices, so find yourself a price somewhere in the middle.
4. Lastly, find out what some of the other cars sell for if able.
Best recommendation, sit on your price if you can. I was offered lower than what I wanted several times, and I almost bit on a couple. I got the price I wanted in the end; not a penny less. (this I learned from the dealer that I bought from. They have no emotion regarding a car. They just have a number that they need to get to stay in business and make a living)
Good luck selling.
Cheers,
Derek
